the Valkyries of Waterdeep

As with many societies constantly tested by the forces of evil and wars spanning centuries, the northerners of Scenia have produced a select number of legendary guilds of warriors. Although known throughout the continent for their fierce barbarians there is another force only spoken of in whispers. Even inside the walls of Waterdeep, where their main headquarters is located, talk about these warriors is in hushed and reverent tones. These warriors are the Valkyries. Priestesses of the God of the Hunt, Malar, most of them were taken from their families, if they had one, when Malar marked them as a huntress.
The “marking” of a possible future Valkyrie often took the shape of a temporary possession and levitation of the new recruit, a halo of light surrounding her as an otherworldly voice declared her new vocation. As soon as the marking has manifested, a fully fledged member of the guild will track down the marked and bring her to one of the Valkyrie monasteries situated in each of the major Nordic cities of Scenia. From that day, any identity the marked once had was erased and forgotten to be replaced by a new identity belonging to the Valkyries and with an utmost devotion to Malar. The main headquarters of the Valkyries is in Waterdeep which is where most people believe the fiercest Valkyries are made.
Originally, the Valkyries' only goals were defense of the homeland and hunting the biggest and most evil creatures they could find. However, there are only so many creatures that can be hunted before causing a species' extinction. Therefore in the last century or so, official hunts of mytholigcal beasts are reserved for higher ranking initiations within the Valkyrian hierarchy. The lower ranks of Valkyries are either stationed by the Kraken's Strait thanks to an ongoing deal with the Imperium of Man or are highered out as some of the best mercenaries on the continent.
