Azure The Fractured World

Welcome to Azure

Azure is a steampunk-lite world torn asunder. This world is full of clockwork contraptions, gunpowder, airships, magiteck, and anachronistic Victorian fashion.

About

After the Sundering, all that remained of the old world was a collection small floating islands--Azure. Below them, nothing remained but an endless expanse of dark ocean. Although no one is quite sure how it happened, one thing is certain: the sea spells death for all those unlucky enough to find themselves in her waters. On the land, industrialization is the name of the game, with science and technologic innovation seamlessly melding with the arcane. The capital city has an abundance of factories producing any number of in-demand goods while the surrounding islands provide the raw materials and fuel necessary for such industry to thrive. From the oil fields of Tomesha to the coal mines of Stoke, industrialization has touched the lives of all of Azure's citizens for better or for worse. Unless, of course, you hail from the old Elvish stronghold of Ner, where old elves fight to preserve the past.   Religion in Azure is complicated; there are no gods left alive, though organized religion and clerics still exist. Clerics draw their power through different (though still divine for gameplay purposes) means.

The Aesthetic of Azure

The "feel" of the campaign falls somewhere between traditional steampunk, clockpunk, and dungeon punk (that's a lot of -punks!) Industrialization has taken hold of Azure, but the old ways of magic and mysticism still thrive, especially outside of urban centers. The most common technology falls into clockwork-and-gears, including warforged, though some more advanced tech does exist. There are also strong western influences is Azure, especially in Tomesha, where cowboys, colts, and the spirit of the American west exist among the sandy dunes. In the other direction, you can expect to see Sky Pirates piloting stolen airships and fully or partially mechanical samurai wandering the land below.

Changes

Azure is not your typical fantasy setting and for that reason, there are a few changes and restrictions in place. The primary example is water races, such as triton and genasi. Because open water, especially the ocean, is viewed with suspicion and fear, the races that hail from the sea are among the rarest and most marginalized in the world (reviled even moreso than the drow). Because of this, players should take great consideration before choosing one of these races. Another change concerns aasimar. In the world of Azure, aasimar are fallen angels. You can read more about this on the religion page.
