Yaxa

The Yaxa is a horrible illness. It was first identified in the 13th of the 57th Rs. The four evolved races are particular susceptible to this disease. The original patient was a human tourist who was traveling through the Realm visiting each of the 7 capitals. Where the Yaxa bacteria came from is not known. And, it wasn’t given serious attention until several outbreaks appeared in larger settlements across all races of the Realm. Medicaments quickly enacted health and safety protocols to control the spread of the Yaxa and began saving those for the future who where ill until a cure could be developed.

Causes

Yaxa is caused by a a strain of bacteria native to Ti Sti'duram'iti. The bacteria is highly resistant to temperature changes and to dry conditions. Investigations have demonstrated that the bacteria can lay dormant of surfaces and remain viable for up to 3 months if the surface is porous and up to 1 month if the surface is smooth. Once a person has come into contact with Yaxa, there is a good probability that they will be infected.

Symptoms

Symptoms manifest in four stages.
Stage one symptoms are a sense of general fatigue, slight blurriness of vision and an almost unnoticeable loss of fine motor control. Average people do not notice these symptoms typically, but trained professionals may as their work is impacted.
Stage two symptoms are dizziness typically in them early morning and/or late evenings and an almost unreasonable desire to imbibe liquids due to thirst. It is at this stage that most people begin to seek medical attention.
Stage three symptoms are considered sever. At this point Yaxa bacteria has reached a critical mass in the body and the muscles start to atrophy. Through the progression of the disease, the muscles are slowly eaten by the bacteria leading to eventual paralysis and then death. The final stage of symptoms, stage four, is the loss of basic motor functions.
The subject can no longer lift limbs, turn themselves and is effectively paralyzed. At this point they will die typically within a week as the Yaxa bacteria slowly a cripples them.

Treatment

In the year 621st of the 57th, the esteemed Doctor Sas’tril ezvat-I’dions developed a serum which cured the disease by killing the bacteria in the body. This treatment is of course best administered early on in the Yaxa cycle. The treatment is one hundred percent successful.

Sequela

Any muscular damage is irreversible.

Yaxa infects every race of person in the Realm. No single species seems to be immune.

Hosts & Carriers

Yaxa can reside in living creatures, surfaces and bodies of water. Plants, insects and aquatic life do not seem to be carriers.

Prevention

Do not touch contaminated surfaces or persons. Do not be in physical proximity to those who are ill.

Cultural Reception

This illness is deeply fear inducing for many realm Citizens once symptoms are explained. For over six hundred years contracting this disease meant either going into the Faid or a terrible slow death. Either way it was the end of your life in it current form.
