Feast of Songs

Each year for one month the city of Virr-La holds a cooking festival focused on a series of highly competitive cooking competitions. The top cooks from around the Realm arrive on the first day of Nuurmi-re and for the entire month participate in public cooking contests to determine the best cook of the Realm. In addition to a substantial monetary endowment as the final prize for the cook, the winning recipe is celebrated by the creation of a song. And, at the beginning of next years competition the winning song is added to the list of songs that are played at the start of the Festival. Currently there are over 500 songs played at the start of this festival.

History

The Feast of Songs is not about songs at all, but about food. This festival is called the Feast of Songs because it begins with songs and ends with a song. It began some 500 years ago as marketing ploy for a little known restaurant which just opened in Ravine Town, a neighborhood in Virr-la. The name of the restaurant is lost to common knowledge, but could certainly be researched with the assistance of the Brotherhood. What is more relevant is who owned the restaurant, one Turrnr family. Specifically the matriarch a rather famous cook herself, Ms. Sara BotLeekr Turrnr who died during the third Feast of Songs. Her family continued to host the feast in her honour, and now it is a major cultural event.

Execution

The Feast is managed by a volunteer committee comprised of various philanthropist of Virr-la. Many are associated with the Turrnr family and historic winners themselves. The contests are held at various famous and infamous restaurants in Virr-la, the schedule of competition provided to the public in advance so that they can decide which competitions they wish to see and sample. Marketing for the Feast of Songs begins at least 7 - 8 months before.
