Stagyar Species in Ayonerra | World Anvil

Stagyar

The first stagyar was formed when goddess Nobeskhet placed her eyes in a turbulent desert. With newly gained sight, the desert’s sand became aware. It grew fascinated by various humanoids, but sensed their uneasiness towards itself. The sand shifted, slowly but surely formed a vaguely anthropomorphic form and started communicating with people. Yet they didn’t trust a creature who used to consume everyone stepping close.

With deep sorrow it started talking to the surrounding air. For the first time the sand spoke its name, Rakheem, voiced how everything has a name they must discover and he would gladly assist them on the journey. A piece of air was intrigued by Rakheem’s tale, realized its name to be Nurarin and reshaped herself into a humanoid body. The two helped pieces of earth, air, water, fire and lightning gain consciousness, as their numbers grew, all agreed to a collective name – Stagyar.

Stagyars formed a vast oasis in the desert’s center, aided each other in finding their individual names, reshaped the bodies into the most comfortable forms, practiced magic, told their experiences and feelings before awareness. Some gained self in far away lands, but all were drawn to Rakheem.

Along the journey, Rakheem and Nurarin fell in love and had children. Each was a stagyar not seen before: light, dark, crystal and nothingness. They became known as the Rare Stagyars. Only one pure rare can exist per type at any given time. When one of the Rares dies, the same type is immediately born elsewhere.

At first, stagyars had considerably longer lifespans. As their numbers grew, the elements dispersed, shortening the individual’s time. Upon death, a stagyar’s body crumbles and rejoins nature.

The Whitestone

Rakheem realized how any sapient being had a potential for depravity. Stagyars’ near invulnerability could endanger other races. Rakheem and every type of stagyar created renewable stones able to directly harm the elemental form or bind a stagyar to their fleshy body, while dampening their magic. The Whitestones were spread throughout Ayonerra, but Rakheem didn’t desire his children to be completely defenceless, thus the stones were limited and became a valuable resource.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Stagyars' fleshy forms have dark complexion. The Bound One's body is often coloured similarly to the stagyar's hair.

Stagyar Animals - The Bound Ones

Upon birth, a stagyar's elemental form splits into two pieces. Following the name discovery, one piece morphs into a fleshy humanoid body, while the other reshapes itself as an animal.

The average bound one is as intelligent as a 14-year-old human. The two can telepathically communicate with each other no matter the distance. The animal is a reflection of the stagyar, sharing one soul. The Bound One's personality doesn't always match the stagyar's. Every stagyar can telepathically communicate with their bound one no matter the distance. The bound ones can also freely talk to each other.

If the stagyar dies, the animal soon follows.

Basic Information

Anatomy
Stagyars have two forms, fleshy humanoid and elemental. Their fleshy bodies look like Dunyars with dark complexion. Height, weight, body type and biological sex can be changed at will. Hair and eye colour can't be altered and don't have to correlate with their element.

Elemental forms range from ethereal to solid shapes. Air, fire, lightning and water stagyars are unrestrained and able to levitate more efficiently than earth ones. Elemental forms are able to wound each other, but they can't be harmed by other races and normal weapons.

Facial characteristics
Stagyars often alter their facial features. Many have aquiline-like prominent noses. Their vivid eyes and hair can be any colour. Stagyars frequently enjoy wearing elaborate make-up to accentuate their features. Stagyar animals share their sibling's colouring.
Genetics and Reproduction
If both parents are stagyars, the child's elemental form painlessly seeps out of the mother's womb, later splitting into a human and animal parts. Until a child discovers the name, their bodies can't gain a fleshy shape. If the parents are different element types, the child either inherits one element or is a mix. E.g. A child of earth and fire stagyars can be earth, fire or lava. In rare cases, four element mixes are possible.

Stagyar men are anxious of impregnating women from other races, considering the elemental fetus can severely harm the mother. When it comes to stagyar women, giving birth to a fleshy child can lead to life threatening complications. A half stagyar's bound one is always stillborn. Stagyar-dharaat mixed children often suffer from muscle and joint disorder, causing intense pain, which only gets elevated during movement.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions
Every stagyar finds their true name. Many choose to shorten it for convenience. Examples include: Elinaroshapshutt - Elinore, Havranapeth - Haveron, Illokhuramateph - Illois.
Beauty Ideals
Considering their shapeshifting, physical beauty is secondary for Stagyars. Make-up, various hairstyles, clothing, intricate jewellery are more significant.
Gender Ideals
Stagyar's ability to change biological sex at will caused gender ideals and norms to be nonexistent.
