Dwarven Reclamation Myth

Long before any dwarves were forced out of their homes in Gel Eamoni and Forgsberg as a whole, there was a prophecy concerning them retaking their homeland. In the early days of dwarven civilization, around the third century of the First Age, a prophet preaching the word of the god Morgran foretold of a crisis that would one day befall the second city of dwarvenkind, as well as the retaking or remedy for that crisis. This premonition was largely ignored until the uprising in 1013 2A brought it back to light.
In a time far in the future, the dwarves of the Second City will fall to their neighbors and be cast out for three generations. When the six hundredth year comes to a close, the powers holding the Second City will wane, allowing the dwarves to retake their lands and reclaim their ancestral homes..

Historical Basis

The myth was largely forgotten in the annals of dwarven lore, demoted to a footnote in ancient arcane tomes. Until the events of 1013, when the most learned dwarven scholars suddenly recalled the prophecy and its meaning. Until that time, many believed the "neighbors" in question would be one of the neighboring naitons like Oestbernia, Skerritt, or even The Dale. Few saw the neighbors being fellow dwarves and residents of the same city, and fewer still would have believed the division was caused by a faction turning against the great dwarven god Morgran.

Cultural Reception

As the exiled dwarves approach 500 years away from their homes, there is a rift in the approach they should take toward the Toldrunites. Some push to continue the sustained hostilities and border raids that have been going on since the beginning of the Dwarven Civil War, believing that they can create their own environment for success when the time is right in some 128 years. Others are relatively happy with the lives their families have built in exile and are content waiting for some supernatural force to depose the usurpers sitting in their city. Still others have forsaken the prophecy and do not wish to return to their families' former homes if they are reclaimed.

Ever known for their devotion to order and almost boundless trust in their deity, the exiled dwarves will continue to count down the years til that magical 600, plotting and scheming and praying all the while to hopefully sow the seeds. In the meantime, the usurpers sit in the hallowed halls scoffing at the prophecies of the Old God and reveling in the prosperity the New God - Toldrun - has brought.

In Art

Many dwarves who follow religious orders - and especially those who fight on the frontlines of the Civil War - emblazon their weapons and armor with depictions of holy avengers taking back the city from the usurpers. These range from runes running along the hafts and edges of axe blades to full artistic depictions of the Day of Reclamation. Rich tapestries are also known to portray the usurpers sitting in their decadent homes and being upended and turned away by the good people who come to reclaim their homeland.
