S A S: Session 04 -- Epilogue

General Summary

Sybermane left the quarter at seventeen minutes past the denoted embarkation time. Good going for a ‘liner of the Immensity’s tonnage. All passengers bound for Shallowverge safely onboard and none of these in berths unsuitable for their station. The same could not be said on the return voyage.     An uneventful thirteen days passed aboard the vessel. Once safely in Duskentown, Sybermane and Trance Avery his regular companion, took a room at the ‘Caverns of Osh’. In the nightclub downstairs, they were approached by a burly cleftyck, Averoah. He identified himself as knowing ‘The Manger’. With this reassurance, Sybermane wa willing to listen to the cleftyck’s information. It was that Sybermane should head out to the Vushang Cataract. Once there he would see what the manager meant for him.   A odd situation arose that may see the hotel deem Sybermane’s future residencies in doubt. The ‘traipse’ vehicle that was commissioned to drive him to the cataract was an overly basic choice, given the gardens the hotel maintained in the front courtyard. Compensation may be in order! The heavy, multi-tracked vehicle did prove more useful on the odd and demanding terrain in the countryside of the ‘Verge.     Once inside his one-size fits all serashsuit, Sybermane made his way into the cataract. The cataract did not fall so much as appear, moving in all directions at once. From high above his head and radiating in all directions the shadowstuff of the cataract emerged from its source head and flowed away. Entering the shadowstuff nearest him, Sybermane felt only the lightest of pressure in his suit. He moved against the shadowstuff’s current. From time to time there would be an increase in the challenge to forge ahead. At one point he saw another ‘walker in the current’ but it wasn’t able to communicate having no words to use. They parted ways without more than a simple acknowledgement. This was not the case with the next person he’d meet here.     Tar Kiln awaited within the densest portion of core currency within the cataract. Placed here by those who knew of the potential rendezvous if not a great deal more about the location. They meet. It goes well considering the challenging situation and the briefness of the acquaintance. Kiln the Drowse and Sybermane the Quinnial — he prefers ‘equine’ — move back to the vehicle in tandem.     Longer expositions are made on the way back to and once arrived at the hotel. Sybermane tells of his history. Tar Kiln seems encouraging and both beings find common ground in their shared solitary state. Final examples of their Races. The sense of proving to the Realm that their kind should receive some respect is palpable. In Tar Kiln this is evidently a well understood motivation; in Sybermane it might be a newer realisation, though no less a core value.     The next day, they use their ticket for the return trip. Another berth is obtained for Trance. This turns out to be lucky, as Tar Kiln is struck down by a severe attack from his contagion. His Colour-fuelled illness overwhelms his redoubtable constitution and he goes into repose for most of the two week voyage to Atrix.     The voyage is smooth. This despite a rumour of a Were of Chenaga having bought a ticket. Of this individual the party sees nothing at all. Only a different, odd circumstance needs noting. At least three times, Tar Kiln is relieved of not only his symptoms but the Contagion in total. This is unheard of never mind experienced personal by Kiln. Trance and Sybermane are there to witness his ‘cure’ though it reverses as quickly as it comes upon the Drowse. If he is disappointed by his restoration being so brief, he doesn’t say. The mystery of this captures all their attention but their suggestions as to the cause don’t amount to a discovery. They design to look into it later.     Later they discover the truth. The Were aboard the ‘Immensity of Rigel’, visits Sybermane’s office in the Aqua Quarter of Atrix City. He comes swathed in Darkness and barely seen attendant servitors, large and menacing. While he bears a passing resemblance to a Were of Chenaga, Sybermane and Tar Kiln know well he is not. He isn’t even if the Realm, coming as he does from their own vanished realmic time. He is Anubis-Set. He is freed of his compunctions, put into him at his making. Those who speak to him eventually agree to his desire to see them restored or even made greater than they have been.     For Tar Kiln, Anubis offers health and kin. For Sybermane, Anubis offers to mentor the quinnial’s desire for a godhead. Anubis intones that these are things not to be taken on light heartedly. For one who is famed for weighing the hearts of the deceased to determine their past lives’ merit, this is not an insignificant thing. He fives them a day and a night to consider what they mean to do, at which point he will return.     A covenant is offered and awaits the two new associated beings.
