B.T.V. -- General Overview: Diaborough

A land of bounty, but bounty that has soured. Over millennia, the land of Diaborough has been both revered for its natural gifts and despised for its less evolved nature. Due to its unique evolution, the land of Diaborough is one held apart and is less well-known than the rest of the world.       The nobility of the Draegeran Houses did not spring as readily from Diaboroughan holds as it did from the other lands of Axildusk. The reason for this might be that the larger power of other lands' Houses meant that Diabroughan Houses were at a disadvantage. These early Diaboroughan Houses might have disappeared as a result. This is one view of the early Houses of Diaborough.       There is a more interesting answer to the question of the weak state of the Diaboroughan Houses. It might be that there are influences within Diaborough that weaken the rise of noble houses. The land of Diaborough is home to groups of Hemetites, Kokin or collectively as, Roscraug. These are 'demonic' beings who form heirarchies of their own in Diaborough. It is not well understood how these extra-planar beings can live upon Diaborough. Whatever the reason -- and Draegeran scholars have pondered this mystery for centuries -- it may be that the Roscraugs' presence diminished the Daiboroughan Draegerans' ability to grow as they did elsewhere. What is certain is that these roscraug can be found anywhere upon Diaborough. This makes travel more dangerous and less likely than on other lands of Axildusk. Those that do travel, do so through strength of numbers or strength of personality.       The Draegerans who have developed on Diaborough form strong family bonds. The land has abundant natural resources. In the past, the land provided more than the other lands of Axildusk to the world's economy. The Enclouding of one hundred and sixty years ago saw Diaborough's climate drastically altered. This was not a conventional cooling or drying. Instead, the land saw random climatic conditions arise without any natural logic to the changes. An icefield might accumulate a few hours adjacent to a humid jungle. Desert and swamp might adjoin each other. In certain places, even stranger conditions arose, such as the glasslands or the gloomrises. Matters were not improved ten years ago with Orbfall. The loss of everyday decanting magics didn't effect the odd climatic situation. The roscraug might have even become more common after Orbfall. People aren't certain of this; it's not a thing to ask on a census! The climate's odd nature has seen Diaborough's prosperity lost. Families have turned inward. They look to secure their own interests and survival, in what has become a more unforgiving land. The lack of a large noblity does mean that there is more to be shared than there might be.       The strange climate causes a worldwide understanding that the things fromDiaborough aren't quite normal. Beyond Diaborough, Draegerans will view those who come from it as untrustworthy or even cursed. Trading with Diaboroughans is not prohibited anywhere but it is approached with caution. Items of the land will be valued, even prized, once they have been proved safe. Safe Diaboroughan produce and items will be valued higher than similar things from other lands of Axildusk.       Diaborough is divided roughly in half between two Houses. Both of these Houses are still recovering from the events of Orbfall. Like the Royal House Marish'Chala the two Houses have no one to lead them. Politically there is a void where these two houses and the royal seat used to exist. Due to the historical lack of houses on Diaborough, this hasn't been as devastating to the land as it would have been elsewhere. Diaboroughans have grown to be self-sufficient and self-governing. They employ this well-practised societal design to manage to continue without widespread unrest or upheaval. Even though the two houses are no longer in proper control, the regions they controlled remain 'in manorial care'. These two regions are named, the Legendary Marches and the County of Spite. These ar eloosely followed affiliations that may mean more to some than others. There is no standard of care for these 'political' regions.       The capital city is called, Diaborough, just as is the land. There are several other major cities. These are typically at river mouths where clean water can be collected. Both regions can claim a proportion of these larger inhabitations. There are seventeen major rivers on Diaborough. This coincidental piece of topography saw each of these rivers named after one of the seventeen Houses of Dreaegera.
