The Mortal Ascension

Overview

The Mortal Ascension is the bloody rebellion that marked the end of the Ven era. It was a two-thousand-year war between the Veldren and their slaves the Mortals. During these years, all of Axeram was a warzone. It was the first time in living memory that the Mortals had provided a united front to overthrow Veldren tyrants and The Venientium .

History

The war began in 2000 V.E alongside the founding of The Folded Court. In the past there had been small groups of Mortals who resisted the Ven but all had failed. The singular difference between the Mortal Ascension and previous attempts was the Folded Court. They were able to steal information from the Veldren and share it with all mortals. Their methods were unknown but at the time no one cared. They only wanted revenge against their oppressors. When the conflict escalated to a war, the members of the Folded Court took positions of authority, organising the Mortals into an effective fighting force with strategies for each encounter. At around 50 V.E the Mortals who would become The Guardians began to rise to power. Their skills and talents were unmatched within both the Mortal and Veldren ranks. From this point onwards, the Mortals claimed victory in the majority of encounters. This is largely due to the Guardians being able to offer assist in battle regardless of its location or time; simply appearing on the battlefield. They were icons at which to rally behind and turned the tide of every battled they took part in.
In the final years of the Ven era, the Guardians discovered a way to overthrow the Venientium. This information in hand, they stopped fighting in the battles on Axeram and instead took the fight to the different realms home to the Ven. It is speculated that the knowledge required to overthrow and locate the Ven was handed to them by the Folded Court, though there is no solid evidence.
Once the Guardians had ascended and slain several of the Ven, the war turned from battles into clean-ups, diplomacy and surrender. Most of the Veldren stepped down, acknowledging their loss. They even assumed new forms to better assimilate with mortal society. However, some splinter groups resisted and more battles were fought. By 50 M.E the Mortal Ascension was deemed concluded as all major battles had been won.
