Mercy's Hand

Overview

The Mercy's Hand is a divine order who follow the beliefs of theThe Gatekeeper. For each continent, there are 10 selected hands of mercy that provide their services to the inhabitants of the land. They offer no allegiance to any kingdom or country and are unbiased with whom they help. The Mercy's Hand founded their methods and beliefs around the life the Gatekeeper led in their mortal years, by providing fair judgment and Mercy when necessary.

Origins

The Mercy's Hand founded their methods and beliefs around the life the Gatekeeper led in their mortal years. It's believed that when the order was founded, the Gatekeeper came down and taught them how to properly follow his ideals and enact proper judgment and mercy. From this encounter, a set of beliefs, traditions and skills was written down on paper. Now every member carries a copy of the documentation.

Beliefs

Mercy's Hand members believe in fair judgment and punishment. They have a strong hatred for suffering in all forms and believe death is a much kinder substitute than torture and even imprisonment. Death to the Mercy's Hand is a gift and should not bring fear. They find comfort in its embrace.

Responsibilities

The order is viewed as having the most talented individuals at discerning truth. However, their main responsibility is to help send those ready for, or deserving of death through the final gate. To assist them in this goal they are gifted with magic from the Gatekeeper to discern fact from fiction. Friend from foe. And to send such enemies to a quick end.

Recruitment

New members for Mercy's Hand are picked by the Gatekeeper as they pass through the gates of death. They are pulled aside and asked whether they would postpone their own death so that others in suffering may pass swiftly and those deserving pass early. It is unknown what criteria the Gatekeeper uses to pick his disciples but those who know his beliefs question why he would rob someone of death.
