Ancient Vel

Overview

Ancient Vel is an old language that was used by the Veldren from 30,000 V.E. Over time the language eventually formed into what is simply known as Vel today. The intricacies of the language are lost to the common folk of Axeram. Ancient Vel is only preserved in isolated veldren communities and by The Venientium . No books were ever written on the language as it was simply innate when the veldren were first created. Whilst most veldren today cannot speak or remember the language when someone speaks it they understand the spoken words and unspoken intricacies. This is believed to be a result of the language being innately known by veldren when they were first created.

Sound

The Ancient Vel language is smooth and flows off the tongue. There are barely any harsh sounds. Many have compared the language to a pleasant song due to its flows and natural melody when spoken. The language is unlike any other on Axeram, even modern Vel is remarkably different. It is also important to note the Ancient Vel has no written form as written language was an idea learned from mortals.

Ancient vs. modern Vel

Despite mortals having served the Veldren during the Ven era, there are no accounts of any mortal understanding or speaking ancient Vel. Some even believe it is incapable of being understood by the mortal mind. This does not seem to be the case with the modern iteration of the Vel language as there are many skilled mortal linguists who have mastery over the language. This is likely due to modern Vel being influenced by mortal languages. The more traditionalist veldren believe that their language has been tainted by mortals and often refer to ancient Vel as the language of creation.
