Wild Magic Nexus

Mixing things together does not always get you an intuitive result.
— Ernan Greyleaf, Alchemist
A Wild Magic Nexus is a point where a number of Wild Magic Fragments converge. At times, these convergence events do not produce a more powerful or sustained Magic Storms, although violent events have happened. Neither do these convergences always result in a Magic Deadzones. Most of the time, a wild magic nexus seems to "bottle up" the arcane energies of these fragments. The arcane energy then bleeds off over time to the point where each fragment splits away again to randomly travel the world once more. Violent events occur when these fragments suddenly break from one another when their energies have not bled off.   A wild magic nexus can form anywhere according to record, but not so many at once. It is believed by established organizations devoted to the study of magic that only seven can form at a time. Certain Druidic Circles believe that as many as thirteen are able to form. The druidic belief contradicts the common notion among mages that Dominus Fragmentum are involved- of which only seven such fragments are believed to be in existence.

Breaking the Bottle

It is believed that a Mage can tap into a wild magic nexus to use its stored magical energies. The powerful magics that are released from a nexus can be used to augment the power of a spell or to imbue an item with magical properties. Few have attempted this, and not all were successful.   Breaking the "bottle" of magic energies carries some great risks. An untrained mage can shatter the bottle of a nexus thereby release all wild magic fragments within the nexus. The freed fragments will resume manifesting their respective wild magics thereby creating a highly chaotic magic storm. Attempts to tap into a wild magic nexus can also end up nullifying the energies of all wild magic fragments within the nexus. This nullification would create a magic deadzone.   The mages who have successfully utilized the magical energies of a nexus, which reportedly include Sanev Vensandoral and Vadoth Yewmind, are said to have been greatly fatigued by the event. Until more study is done on the nexuses, the costs of extracting their magic seems to be too great for the benefits one can achieve. There is a growing belief that the Seven Ruined Wonders hold the key to understanding the nexuses.

The Seven Ruined Wonders

Only five Wild Magic Nexuses have been located. Three of which center on the seven ruined wonders: The Silent Pyramid, The Ekla Pentagon, and The Xeo Pyramid. This has led some to believe that these wonders were built where they were in order to exert influence over the magic nexuses. Perhaps the wonders are responsible for the creation of the nexuses. Still others believe the alignments are merely coincidental and that the positions of all twelve or thirteen nexuses change over time. There has been no conclusive evidence for any of these theories, though study continues.   If the wonders and the nexuses are ever fully understood, the world may finally have an answer for the cause of the Great Collapse.
