The Common Language of the Ancients
I doubt that everyone could understand one another perfectly, but having a platform on which to discuss at all would be enough.
Overview
In order for a global society to function effectively, every member will need to be capable of communicating with one another. Thus, The Ancient Order must have had a common tongue though which all of its members can relate thoughts and ideas. This language would have been taught to every new member of their society though what must have been a global curriculum. Perhaps it is sufficient for this article to say that the existence of a global prosperous society necessarily entails a global language, which entails a unified education system. The language is the topic of this article. Note that this is not the same language as Xēlōian, a language used in the casting of magic and that may have origins predating the Ancient Order. The Base Language
A great question is which of the several languages of the several peoples was used as the global language. Evidence suggests that it was Elvish that was most commonly used in the ancient society. The next most common was that of the Dwarves, followed by the common tongue of Humans. This is a rather strange occurrence as the human language is more capable of assimilating terminology from other languages. Perhaps the beauty of the elvish language had some role to play in the founding of the order.Evidence
Evidence for this global language comes in scripts seen on artifacts and recovered documents. While several languages have been seen, a common form of elvish is the most common seen on these artifacts and documents.Note(s) from the Archivists:
And I started this job hoping that Dwarvish was the most common. - Archivist Bob Human over here. - Archivist Edward I think elvish is pretty cool. - Archivist EnnaRemove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
