Statue Cave

This is one of the creepier places I've laid eyes on.

Overview

A cave of statues that were once breathing and self aware people. The cave itself is very large with the far end never having been reached by anyone who survived the cave. The cave lies on the western side of the Silver Mountains, behind a waterfall.

Why Does the Cave Turn People into Statues?

No idea. Magic. It's probably magic. In any case, what makes you so sure the cave is statuing people?

Are the Statued People Alive?

Probably not. Could be though.
If they've fallen over and broke into pieces then definitely not.

Who Would Want to Turn People into Statues?

They probably wanted more statues.

Then Why do They Not Move the Statues From the Cave?

Too heavy?

Then Why do They Want Statues if They Can't Move Them?

They're not very bright, clearly.

What if it's Just a Magic Field?

That would be a good answer, yes. A petrify field can turn a cave into a statue factory.
