South Company

Overview

Considered the most powerful among the cardinal guilds, South Company made a fortune setting up business in the powerful countries of the Lluvia Continental Island, the southern part of Quassus. The company has so far maintained its strong influence within the Union of the Cardinal Directions. Their current position is far removed from their humble days as a small caravan barely making a living by traveling between towns and villages and begging for business from the locals.
South Company is currently lead by Alser of the Golden Plains. Alser took over the company from Skyler Varywind after the Cardinal Directions was formed. Skyler Varywind took over the company when Cine Greenpath had a sudden and unexpected psychotic episode. Theories abound as to why she suffered so suddenly and completely, though hindsight was as revealing as ever. The most intriguing explanation was that it was intentionally induced by a rival, possibly Skyler. Skyler is known to be a highly ambitious and sometimes ruthless individual.

Company Founder

South Company was founded by Aaquid Greenpath, along with his brothers who each founded the other three cardinal companies. The entire venture began on a bet between the four brothers on which direction would be the most profitable. The drive to win this bet ultimately sprung four of the largest guilds on the continent.

"Cardinal Specialty" - Extraordinary Herbs

In hindsight, the South Company started out in a very advantageous position. The southern reaches of Quassus are home to the continent's greatest economic and political powers. Additionally, across the sea there is another continent, Deshret, with things altogether strange and wonderful to the inhabitants of Quassus. It is no surprise then that the South Company has established several trade routes to the peoples of Deshret. The primary purpose of these trading routes is to transport spices. Deshret spices are a highly sought after commodity in Quassus. In turn, the inhabitants of the Deshret, particularly in the gateway cities, desire what is to them exotic spices grown in the northern continent. It is this mutually beneficial trade that has made the South Company the strongest among the cardinal direction guilds.
