Severo's Prophecy

Should this prophecy come to pass, the Avistarians may reclaim their homeland, but they will bring upon themselves far more than the restoration of their country.to pass. Every victory brings with it its own sorrow.
— Wallis, the Wizard of the Occulus Sea.

Overview

Most are familiar with the basics of Severo's Prophecy: that Avistar will be restored when the heir to the sundered crown reclaims the land. It is a fairly straight-forward tale, that all will be well once the hero is found. However, there is more to this prophecy and the coming of Nova Avistar than most know. Severo's prophecy describes the rebirth of Avistar occurring when the continent is burning from war, and all countries involved having suffered deep wounds. It is a more complex vision than the commoner is aware of.   Perhaps the reason for this lack of knowledge is probably due to the Kingdom of Helia's efforts to prevent knowledge of the prophecy from spreading and inspiring rebellion. It seems clear that the Kingdom has been both successful and unsuccessful at doing so.

Preservation

Severo must have known that his vision would be incendiary to the newly expanded power of Helia, but he told it despite the mortal danger. He had the foresight to write down his prophecies in a hidden manuscript that was not discovered for many years. Unfortunately, he did not detail all of his visions before his arrest. The only thing he was able to write down was a vague summary that he meant to expound.   Exactly where this manuscript was safely hidden, none can say for certain besides its discoverer. This still unidentified individual had successfully brought the document to the largely neutral territory of Free City-State of Centrum where it has been studied exclusively within scholarly circles.

Severo's Prophecy in Full

Severo's actual manuscript is not recounted here as it was written in code. It took Centrum scholars months to decipher it and to understand. Below is but a summation of this learned understanding:   The prophecy starts by saying that the heir of the Avistarian crown will need to come forth to start the chain of events. The role of the new Avistar sovereign is to make whole the sundered crown, and to take up Dalia's Sword. With these royal items in hand, the sovereign will inspire Avistar's revival. To bring this revival to pass, this sovereign will enter the Radiant City of Sol and there restore the honor of the Kingdom of Helia. The new Helia will restore the conquered lands and Nova Avistar will be born.   However, other events will be afoot. The restoration of Avistar, Severo predicts, will happen during the bloody war between Kingdom of Helia and the Queendom of Lunaria. This is necessary as Avistar's new sovereign would be unable to take the necessary steps to restore Avistar during peace. Severo provides an interestingly specific detail: Avistar's new sovereign will enter Sol when Lunaria breaks the city's walls, and brings war to the doorstep of the The Radiant Palace to avenge the burning of the Silver City of Luna.   It is not clear how Avistar's new sovereign will broker peace if so many terrible events come to pass. But Severo claims that a new peace will arrive. This peace will not last. When the conquered lands have been restored under this new peace, a new war will arrive from the south with strange and terrible engines of war. If Severo had more to tell beyond this vague warning, it was lost during Helia's purging of him and his prophecy.

Complications to the Common Tale

One part of this that is immediately different is that Helia will willingly restore Avistar. Furthermore, the Lunarian siege will undoubtedly shed the blood of many Avistarian descendants not serving in the Helian army living in the city. This is a very different set of events to a straight-forward Avistarian uprising against the authority of Helia version of the prophecy that is commonly told.   The war arriving from the south is also a part of the prophecy is never mentioned. It is a strong contrast to the implied idea of a lasting peace after restoration in the common version of the prophecy. It seems that Avistarians will trade oppression of their culture for a war that will engulf the southern lands of the Quassus Continent.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

It's just one thing after another isn't it? That the ending of one war merely opens the way for another. We may never witness the kind of peace seen in The Ancient Order's time. This is depressing. - Archivist Rena   Does Helia know that Centrum has this manuscript? - Archivist Savitri   They probably do, but our scholars have wisely or unwisely kept a low profile on this information. Maybe most are content with the version they have learned and such a document as this would be an inconvenience. - Archivist Taenya Naïlo   I'm not sure what to feel about being party to keeping this manuscript a secret from the Avistarians living in Sol. It seems like something they have a right to know regardless of what may happen. - Archivist Enna   I fear doing that may have unforeseen consequences. It is ironic that Severo wrote this prophecy for his people to read yet if they had then the consequences may be dire. I have a feeling that the one who needs to know Severo's Prophecy in full will come to Centrum one day. We should make sure nothing happens to this article until then. - Archivist Taenya Nailo

You know, that whole 'war arriving from the south' can be taken so many ways. Perhaps an alliance against someone else... - Lorekeeper Rudigar Brockhouse

What are you going on about? We don't have a copy of Severo's Prophecy... do we? - Lorekeeper Ihodis Jenro

Well, maybe not the boring parts... - Lorekeeper Rudigar
