Pumpkin Town of Qakum
Yeah, I've heard about that place. They say the pumpkins are terrifyingly huge!
Overview
Unfortunately none of the buildings here are actually made of pumpkin, although they could be if the inhabitants desired it. Qakum is often overshadowed by the settlement on the neighboring island of Visus known as Centrum, it is nonetheless an important settlement to the city-state. It's produce has been seen on the tables of many all along the coast of the Occulus Sea.Qakum Pumpkins
Qakum's most well known food is the Qakum Pumpkin. No other island can produce pumpkins of such enormity and deliciousness. They are also a very vivid shade of orange. Qakum Pumpkins grow to be so large that they can be used as small boats when hollowed out. The pumpkins are consistently in high demand, particularly among Centrum's aristocratic class. A centrum aristocrat will pay a carver to carve a work of art into their Qakum Pumpkin and then display the final product during the month of festivals.Qakum
Qakum, just Qakum, was an Avistarian sailor (and a Tortle if you wanted to know) who landed on Parva Soror and found that its soil was great for growing crops. Pumpkins in particular were found to grow unusually well in the island's soil. Seeing an opportunity before him, Qakum established a town called "Growth" on the island's northern coast. Many farms were created after the town's establishment and the crops from this farms were traded first to Centrum and then to all other towns and cities along the coasts of the Occulus Sea. When Qakum died the Growth was renamed in his honor to "Qakum."Shielding the Crops
As the town's produce is very important to their economic well-being and their ultimate survival, the pumpkins in particular, they have seen to it that their fields are protected with magic shields powered by Schutz Crystals.A Warning from a Lone Druid
The island was not uninhabited before Qakum arrived and established a new settlement. A lone druid lived on the island whose name they never divulged. They had expressed their dissatisfaction at the new arrivals turning the land into farmland citing concern for its balance. The Druid has not been seen since their last altercation with Qakum during which a warning was given:Do not abuse this land or it will return the favor. Some wonder if the Druid is still alive or some stranger fate has befallen them. The druid appeared to have lived alone, so the possibility of an offspring seems remote. Expeditions to find the home of this druid were unable to find anything due to the dense forest and rough terrain making travel up the northwest corner of the island all but impossible. To some it would seem that the warning is slowly being forgotten. The town seeks to expand and intensify their farming in order to capitalize on new trade opportunities with the growing peoples of the north (with encouragement from the Mabara Guild. Some have said that the trees of Parva Soror seem to grow increasingly disquieted and that the birds of the island seem to sing less. Some have said that the vegetables growing now are already smaller than they once were.
