Forest Fire of 1255AGC

It may not seem like it now, but this young and verdant forest used to be old and twisted.
— Artur Neha, Traveler

Overview

The rains had not come for weeks, and a dry wind was blowing from the north. The Tordu Forest was ripe for a fire, its trees having become dry and withered. To its north was the Feu Wood and all its burning animals. Desperate for a meal, a Fire Deer followed a boar into from its own wood to the Tordu Forest. The Deer set fire to various things during its hunt: grass, dried bushes, and a tall tree. As these things were set on fire they served as the spark that started a forest fire that consumed Tordu in flames. Within a week Tordu was no more, and it would be some time before newly sprouted plants emerged from the debris. Caught in the fire's way were two villages, Vrede and Prospérité, and several unfortunate camps. The settlements and camps were reduced to ashes, and the death toll was claimed at over a hundred and the rest were homeless.

Recovery

New villages were built upon the tops of hills and they are called Regarder and Waakzaamheid. As for the forest, it was reborn as the Nouveau forest. However, things are still not the same as they were before the disaster.

Fallout

The survivors of each village together have instituted an official group of rangers tasked with preventing similar disasters from happening. To this end, rangers will patrol the borders of the Feu Wood to slay any burning predator that intends to enter a dry and vulnerable places.
