Extraordinary Bees
There are so many kinds of bees in our world that it is difficult to keep track of them all. A few stand out however...
Overview
Giant Bee
As the name implies, this kind of bee is much larger than your ordinary honey bee. Giant bees are about the size of a small bird. Where most bees can be found collecting nectar in small or large groups, it is rare to catch sight of more than one giant bee. That is not to imply that giant bees live a solitary existence, they still live in groups within hives, but their numbers are fewer than most bee species. You haven't lived until a spectral bee swarm visits your flowers out of the blue and just as suddenly leave. That noise gave a heart attack!
Spectral Bee
Usually the sight of a spectral creature should elicit alarm on the part of the observer. However, such a response would be entirely unwarranted in the presence of this colorful and shimmering bee. This is mostly because the Spectral Bee's destinations are predictable: flowers and its home hive. Of course it is rare for anyone to find the spectral bee's hive as it usually exists in some other dimension. It is called the spectral bee as it can appear and reappear at will and it appears to have the ability to travel between planes of existence. They are usually a rare sight, but their suddenness and strange natures can be alarming to the uninformed.Glowing Bee
Sometimes mistaken for fireflies, these bees can glow at night. The glow from these bees can be so bright that they illuminate the entire flower they are visiting. They are typically active during the summer and are a welcomed sight by anyone traveling at night. Glowing bees are also known to fly in unusual formations when traveling long distances. It seems as if they try to mimic the appearance of things they see during their travels, including the faces of people.Sharpshooter Bee
If you ever aggravate a bee so much that it attacks you, this is probably the one to avoid. Unlike most bees that have to contact your skin in order to deliver their sting, the sharpshooter bee can do so at range with pinpoint accuracy. Also unlike most bees, their stingers aren't limited to a only one use. They are also slightly larger than a bumble bee and they travel in small groups, and if one attacks the rest will too. Luckily, most sharpshooter bees are usually indifferent to anything or anyone around them.Leave a beehive be.
Harbinger Bee
Sometimes, when one destroys a beehive without sufficient cause they are visited by a bee as black as night, as large as a small bird, and as silent as a whisper sometime during the night. From the time it arrives until the first light of dawn, this bee will simply observe its target individual. When it leaves, it travels away from the rising sun towards an unknown destination. The Harbinger Bee heralds the coming of dark times for the visited individual. People known to have been visited by such a bee have lost fortunes, had their career ended, and even had property destroyed before the year is over. They say even worse fates have fallen on particularly corrupt individuals. As such, destroying beehives without sufficient cause are highly discouraged among the societies of Awldor.Bzzzzzz...
