A Castle with no Tales

As a rule of the world, peoples and places have stories to tell. You just need to ask questions to find out. However, it seems that everything has an exception...
— Alicia Ravenwood, Historian

Overview

It is simply known as "the Castle." They say the structure resides nearby the village of Green Hill, and that no power lives there now for no one can breach its sealed walls. The walls having been sealed by the Reclusive Prince, whose name has long been forgotten. The story is often told on the continental island of Dämmerung, a sub-region of the Quassus Continent.

The Reclusive Prince

As the story goes, a Prince had paid for a castle to be carved out of a stony hill to secure his claim on the surrounding lands and to secure himself from the harshness of the world. After it was built and the Prince had moved all his possessions into it he remained there. He never ventured from it again, instead sending for others to see to his various errands. These errands being rather unremarkable, just getting food from the local market and the like.   The Prince never engaged in battle nor did he open dialogues with people of like stature, or even refused their claims on his village when they came. He never even bothered to write down his own thoughts in a journal. It was as if he never truly existed. It is said that after a time of unending isolation that his subjects had begun to forget they even had a Prince and that the large stone structure outside their village, the castle, was a curiosity to them. An relic of some old country.   The story is often told as a warning against never risking exploration or interaction with the world at large. "If you don't brave the world then it will be as if you've never existed at all" is a phrase many use to end the tale of the Reclusive Prince. To be sure, there are those that have taken the words of the story as a warning, but others have stated quite plainly that they would prefer to pass through the world unseen and that the story gives them some hope of that.

The Truth of the Matter

A castle carved from solid stone does exist near Green Hill, though it is not close enough to be an imposing presence. It is also far older than people have guessed. The structure could have Ancient origins from before the The Great Collapse. Investigations inside the castle reveal it to be a strange thing indeed, for it seems that no one has ever occupied the castle. No remains of furnishings or the like can be found. The floor is solid stone having never been covered with rugs or carpets. Some even question that it was a castle at all as reports describe it to be a very nondescript thing indeed.

Summary

Not much to summarize here.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

"A Castle with no Tales" seems like a  misnomer considering that it actually does have a tale to it. - Archivist Theta    There's a reason I don't try to make sense of everything. - Archivist Bob Ironrock
