Halfing Nomad Tribes of the Far Plains
In the far plains northwest of Ildonia there are countless tribes of halfling beast riders, hunters, and crafting folk. They are known far and wide for their celebration of big game hunts and fantastical leathers and furs made from oddities across the plains. Their hide armors, belts, boots, gloves, and cloaks are renown throughout adventurers as wondrous prizes worthy of anyone on the hunt. More rare than that and even more highly prized are some of the materials made from fallen stars during the annual Star-Chase festival. These are often found to have elemental or astral properties beyond those of normal minerals due to their celestial origins.
The tribes travel around and with each other across the plains sharing and competing in hunts. The most grandiose hunts usually involve two or more of these tribes working together to take down their prey. The tribes act like extended families and often times bloodlines are crossed throughout the tribes. The legend goes that all the tribes are like the grass of the plains all originating from a divine seed planted by the oldest gods of this realm. The shape of the grasslands is as much shaped by them as the grass and their migration paths shift and flow like the rivers.
These tribes are almost never afraid or threatened by outsiders. Their curiosity and willingness to challenge themselves open them to strangers and new hunters, even from other races. Many of the tribes led by halflings of long lineage are mixed races of local orcs, half-orcs, half-elves, and humans most commonly but almost any race can be found among the tribes from time to time.
Big game hunts change seasonally and it is expected that outsiders join in on the challenge. Hunting legends are pervasive in the tribes and are often times connected to the formations of the tribes and grasslands themselves. Dragon hunts and Giant hunts are the most mythical of affairs as both are infrequent and harrowing. Dragons and Giants are told in tales of creation as the ones who crafted the whole realm so their slaying is associated with everlasting greatness.
