Threlings

The Threlings are a scattered and fractured tribe, occupying the southernmost of the ancestral Tarilin lands.   In the golden age of the Tarilin, before the great Whelming that shattered the land, they were the most numerous and prosperous branch of their race. Their crops were traded to feed great cities; the products of their artisans graced the halls of the wealthy and noble; and their hunters and warriors were respected and feared everywhere.   Now they have no unifying identity. Over the last couple of centuries, most of their original territory has been overrun by the expanding Tilothrin kingdom of Shaiel. Many live under Tilothrin rule and are considered barbarians and second-class citizens in their own ancestral lands; a fair number of these would be utterly lost if their hometowns suddenly reverted to Tarilin ownership. Even the Boadings, whose blood has been diluted by mixing with the Tilothrin, retain a more robust version of their ancestral culture.   That is not to say that Tarilin culture is dead among the Threlings, however. A good many go to live among the Boadings and share their warrior ways. The tracking and survival skills of traditional Threling hunters are still legendary. And in the rugged highland moors, fells, and fens of Madag, the purest remnant of the ancient Tarilin culture survives. The oldest of the old ways survive where the isolated highland clans of the Threlings keep them alive.
