Home - Geological Territory 1

As far as we know, Home is where everything began. It's where everything was when The Survivors woke from the Past Age. Our libraries, our knowledge, our records, our tools, it was all here. We don't quite understand how or why it was all gathered here from across Avan'ur, and I've spent my life trying to answer that question. - Haz'a'ur, Master of Records, Library 1

Demographics

Home is primarily an Elven city, with about 30% of the population being dwarves, and 10% being mixed between humans, gnomes, and other races.

Government

Home is run by The Children, a council of 100 descendants from the original citizens that survived the Past Age and awoke in Home, primarily elves. Using historical records to approximate previous organizations, The Children try to be representative of all the citizens of Home. If members of other races cannot elect a suitable descendant to the The Children, or that race's lineage from the Survivors has been wiped out, existing members are chosen to represent other races that reside in Home but are not among the descendants of The Survivors.

Defences

Home deploys the Guardians of the Homeland - fiercely trained military specialists whose only task is to see that Home goes unharmed. While not common in the Current Age, the Guardian have had to be deployed on numerous occasions to defend the city from bands of outsiders. They are a largely secretive organization - citizens of Home are chosen to become part of the Guardians, not vis versa. The Guardians have various groups and teams, including Outward Defence, Internal Control, and Exploration.

Industry & Trade

Home is the primary producer and distributor of metal and lumber for all of Avan'ur, making it an absolutely critical part of the economy. Being that The Survivors found most of the records, schematics, and scientific material in Avan'ur in Home, it is also the primary location for scholarly pursuits, although certain efforts have been made to spread knowledge throughout Avan'ur.

Infrastructure

Home's infrastructure is vast and complex, comprising of above and below ground residential communities, industrial hubs, and markets. The infrastructure underground is overall less organized and more poorly maintained than the infrastructure above ground. Stone is used to create walkways between buildings, and roads between the center of Home and the factories on the outside of the city.

Guilds and Factions

The Children, The Guardians of the Homeland, and The Keepers, and The Movers are the primary factions of Home, comprising most essential functions for the survival and growth of the city. Other smaller organizations such as The Crafters, Mal'zun's Mappers, and They Who Kneel are other notable groups that pursue their interest in attempts to maintain the city.

History

While records are either vague, destroyed, or lost, it is common knowledge that Home was built before the Past Age, and persisted through both catastrophes into The Current Age. It is unclear how essential Home was to the previous ages, but due it's relatively unique status as a surviving city it has become critical to Avan'ur.

Architecture

Home is largely built of metal, stone, and wood, utilizing the natural resources afforded to it. Buildings are very utilitarian, featuring elegant but plain designs. Poorer members of the community live in vast underground neighborhoods with simple homes carved into the rock. Most above ground homes of stone and metal are simple square buildings, while wealthier citizens of Home and prominent businesses have buildings that are multiple levels high.

Geography

Home sits just south of a mountain range that spans hundreds of miles from east to west. The land to the south is largely flat. Fresh water is provided from rivers carved in the mountains. To the east of Home is the Green Horizen, an enormous forest that provides lumber to Avan'ur. To the west and south are rolling plains and flatlands.

Natural Resources

Home is built on the most extensive mines of Avan'ur, leading to the primary industry of Home to be production of metals that are shipped elsewhere to create most structures in Avan'ur. Home is situated between the Green Horizon and most other major cities, allowing it to facilitate production and distribution of both metals and lumber.
