The Velvet Room
Part massage parlour, part brothel, part something else, the Velvet Room never quite seems to be in the same place each night. While relatively inconspicuous on the outside, the inside is a pleasing mix of reds; from the deep mahogany of the wood to the warm red carpet, to the alluring curtains of crimson velvet that flow down the walls like water. Those that look close enough also notice discreet, if a little unusual, fowl motifs worked into the establishment’s decor.
History
The original Velvet Room was opened in 1913 by a woman known at the time as Madam Marseille, and over the years it would change hands, and locations, many times. The brothel would eventually (1968) fall under the ownership of Brianna LeBeau, whom at the time was one of the older girls working at the establishment, and a practising witch. Madam LeBeau used her newfound influence to establish the business as a prominent fixture in the City's occult community. It is during this time that the Velvet Room also began to display discrete fowl motifs in its design, thus gaining the nickname the 'Henhouse'.
This continued for several decades until the business fell under the gaze of Vlad Petrovich and the Russian Brotherhood. Now a stubborn old witch, the Madam refused the Brotherhood's protection. Since then, the Velvet Room has fended off several attacks by the Brotherhood, and the Madam is constantly on the lookout for Vlad's men harassing her girls.
In more recent history, the Velvet Room was involved in an attack by the ghost of Bridget Bishop, a powerful sorceress and the first woman executed in the Salem Witch Trials. While the girls escaped unharmed, the building did not survive. But, as always, the business will live on, and soon enough another Velvet Room will emerge in the City, with tiny little chicken motifs scattered within.
