The Skedrow Family

A relatively unknown name a few hundred years back, an Ausran woman with the name Skedrow suddenly claimed that she'd discovered a way to make hux abilities manifest in inux (powerless Ausran), and make hux abilities far exceed their normal capabilities. Before she was able to show her research to the AUMO, however, she disappeared, along with her research. Rumor had it that she was too successful, and one of her test subjects burned her lab and torched half the planet it was located on. Several years later, a boy with the same name was promoted to a high combat role, seemingly without warning. He showed promise- all his aptitude test scores were nothing short of perfect, and his all his knowledge seemed to have been self-taught. His prowess with any weapon was unparalleled in his troop, including among top specialists. He became a Vanguard- one of the most elite units of the Northern Ausran Military, with an almost infinite jurisdiction. His full name was Voak Skedrow.   Eventually, a seemingly Western-looking Ausran, Troubel, claimed the same family name. She rose to high ranking position in the AUMO almost as quickly as Voak had, and largely for the same reasons. After the two met, they became very close. Soon, a total of 9 others also claimed to be of the Skedrow lineage, and all showed the same ability and aptitude. Their name began to circulate around the chain of command, and eventually into the mouths of the Ausran people. Their triumphs on the field and at home became stories coming out of the AUMO Broadcaster. With all the new celebrity, the group agreed to being a family of sorts, and this period was known as the Years of Blue. Voak became a politician, quitting the military. His brothers and sisters became spokespersons for his numerous campaigns. During this time, Voak was also given the honor of becoming the High Acolyte of the Goddess of the Dark, Elara, and met his first love, a priestess of Didre, Goddess of Logic and Reason. He eventually decided to take a break from his political career, wishing to spend time with his new mate and their incoming youngling. For the next few years, his 10 brothers and sisters not only sustained his political clout, but also began to foster their own. He lived quietly in a small hut in the Eastern grass plains.   Then, tragedy struck. A group of still unknown militants raided his home while he was on a walk and burned it to the ground. By the time it fell, Voak had reached the smoking remains, and the individuals in front of the still-flaming pile of rubble. In a tearful turn of events, his mate was forced to shoot him to protect their daughter. However, he survived the bullet, and had his legs shot out from under him by the militants, and his mate and child both shot and killed in front of him. When he returned from recovery, he had changed. He began investing in military efforts again, eventually rejoining and taking his old position. His siblings broke from politics to join him in a time that is now known as the Years of Ash, thus ending the Years of Blue.   He had become colder and more calculating than ever before, taking more risks with harsher payoffs until one of his brothers took over from him. He left the AUMO to rejoin the Northern Ausran Military. Soon after, the Red Snow wars began, pitting the North and South regions of Auser against the West, East, and Midland. The Northerners took on a fascist leadership, and soon ordered the genocide of Western Ausran with red skin. The first public execution, or "cleansing" as the leader of the North called it, resulted in an immediate declaration of war from all major cities outside the north and south regions. Voak was pitted against his own family in a war that would last for a long time, causing the deaths of 84 million Ausran in total, with the majority of those being Westerners at 30 million dead. After the fascist leadership was overthrown, it was revealed that Voak had defected during the war and rescued a total of 3 million westerners and prisoners of war through deception. He was granted a pardon for his service in the rescue of the individuals.   After his trial, he began to pool all his left over resources into designing and building his own spacecraft. His idea was to create a home out on the plains for everyone, wherever they may go. As usual, his siblings were quick to join him in his efforts. With this, they built the magnificent vessel Ikarus-won. A cruise-class vessel, it set sail not long after it was finished with a crew of 2 million, many of which were people he had rescued during the Red Snow wars. The ship became larger as time went on, with new parts and decks being added and improved upon, as well as the population increasing through the acquiring of tons of interplanetary trade partners, permanent residents of different species, and other new occupants, most being Ausran themselves. The Ausran population of the Ikarus-won easily exceeded 2 billion at one time. After finding a group of planets ravaged by a known threat, the Ikarus-won cut off the Baru-tan war machine (more on them in another article, so stay tuned) at a small planet known to its inhabitants as Earth. When the Baru-tan arrived, a massive war ensued. During this war, Voak met his second love, an Eastern Ausran ex-assassin-turned-soldier by the name of Lewin Eris. In the first recorded human wedding ceremony for an extraterrestrial couple, they were married during the war. After the war ended, Voak took to starting a family again, for the first time in years becoming his old self.   Another tragedy struck soon after, and Voak reportedly lost his life in a horrible accidental-launch airlock breach. He was incinerated, leaving behind his wife, 11 children, siblings, the Ikarus-won, and a question: Why? The circumstances surrounding his death still leave investigators astounded. The investigation is 6 years old, but is still ongoing due to funding from a few of Voak's siblings. To this day, no one knows exactly what happened that day. However, they think that someone does know- and that he, or she, is out there, somewhere, with all the answers.   News article detailing the life and times of Voak Skedrow and his family from the Ikarus-won's post system, Terran time: 2047, January 6 A.D.
