The Ausran Universal Meritocratic Organization (AUMO)

Authors   Pashaman Gaheltno   Shulak Gaheltno
The AUMO is a multi-galaxy organization made up of colonized planets ruled over by Ausran standard law. The meritocracy is run by Braccus Grier, recognized for her political savvy (and surprising combat ability, as I have learned in the past).

Structure

The highest position in the AUMO is the Head Chairperson(s). Under them is a selection of Adoni (Admirals) and politicians that make up what is called the Chairs. Chairs are officials voted in by AUMO constituencies and nominated for their prowess and ability. Any skilled persons may be nominated if they choose to pursue a seat on the Chair council. Politicians sitting on the Chair council have Student Chairs underneath them made up of lobbyists, secretaries, and diplomats, assistants for whom are chosen personally by the individual. Adoni have a Bashat, or their right hand, under them. Their armies are not directly employed by the AUMO, but rather they are employed by a company run by the Adona in question. This company is responsible for the actions of the contracted soldiers and specialists. The soldiers acknowledge that they work for the AUMO, although this is not necessarily true. Should the Head Chair fall or lose favor and be ousted, a new Head Chair will be chosen from the existing Chairs based on their ability, measured by both their popularity and their effectiveness in their Chairs before. The number of Chairs fluctuates, but there are generally around 650 members at any given time.

Public Agenda

The goals and motivations behind the organization are not directly aligned with those of the Head Chairperson, so the values of the organization are difficult to place. More interviews should be scheduled.

Assets

The AUMO collectively OWNS Auser and all its resources, even what is considered "free land" on the planet's surface. The organization also owns a total of 853,076 planets, 400 of which support life, and 37 of which hold sentient non-Ausran life. 7 of these are under Eskan religious jurisdiction and are run as such. This also includes AUMO sanctioned Battalions 1 through 101 (composed of one roughly Moon-sized starship, approx. 5 star frigates, and 5 squadrons of 150,000 battle-ready spaceflyers), the AUMO Treasury, valued at 6 trillion Pon, and the 4 AUMO sanctioned weapons/tools manufacturers. Chairs have their own private enterprises that may be claimed under AUMO assets if need be.

History

The AUMO was founded prior to the first moon landing with the intent to oversee all future space endeavors. It slowly gained steam and resources, absorbing other organizations and eventually governments to become what it is today. The most recent addition into the monopoly was the Eskan religion itself.

Demography and Population

The demographic for the AUMO is mostly Ausran, with all planets under their rule being inhabited by the Ausran people. The demographic depends on the other denizens of the planet or stellar region, but even factoring in all other races, Ausran still hold a strong majority demographic. Average birth and death rates are calculated by stellar region, as Ausran survival is dictated by the flora and fauna of their environment and not necessarily the environment itself. They are not calculated in an overall average, only a regional average. Although, I suppose, if someone were to get really picky, they could calculate it themselves.

Territories

Most of the 853,076 planets under AUMO control are fully assimilated. These territories span several galaxies due to wormhole travel and its distance-covering capabilities. All lands on Auser are considered ancestral property.

Military

The AUMO military is run by the Adoni. Each Adona has their own private contracting agency tasked with picking up recruits from Auser and the colonies. They are then contracted to the private agency, absolving the AUMO of any responsibility for the actions of their own soldiers. The full army consists of AUMO sanctioned Battalions 1 through 101 (composed of one roughly Moon-sized starship, approx. 5 star frigates, and 5 squadrons of 150,000 battle-ready spaceflyers. These Battalions are roughly 50 million strong on average, though numbers vary). Each battalion has its own Adona, its own private company, and its own individual purpose. For instance, Battalion 56 is an Extermination fleet, heavily armed and trained to eradicate diseased populations infected with highly infectious illnesses (this Battalion is used more often than you'd think, but not for that specific purpose- rather, they are often used as shock troops in collaboration with other war-party Battalions).

Technological Level

Space-age technologies are widely available to citizens of Auser and colonies off-planet. Dark matter suspension has had a lasting impact on the economy and the industrial sector, and will continue in its success while spacecraft are still being upgraded and manufactured. The AUMO claims all responsibility for the creation of dark matter suspension/propulsion systems. The ability to manufacture "soul-weapons" has also proven fruitful to the general populace, and these soul weapons are now mass produced for both civilian and military use.

Religion

Although most Chairs and Adoni are religious, the houses do not have any true power within the organization. All houses are to be represented by Braccus Grier.

Foreign Relations

Although the AUMO is on good terms with most sentient races it shares space with, they still have issues with races claimed by the Baru-tus war machine. There are only a few, but even one race aligned with the Baru-tus is one race too many.

Agriculture & Industry

Military and general industry are the main facets of the AUMO's power. Metal producers and weapons manufacturers are the biggest breadwinners, with off-planet mining being the industry in a close second. Metal producers are also in charge of constructing the massive space vessels and starships- a job that is quite dangerous, but highly profitable. Due to the size of many of these starships, all work must be done further away from other planets, lest the starship throw a planet out of orbit by accident due to it being so large (a lot of times, it develops its own gravitational field, often right before dark matter suspension is implemented to counteract many of the negative effects of the ship's enormous size and mass). That being said, the AUMO also boasts a significant agricultural trade wealth as well, having access to many different spices and large amounts of local foods that can be shipped off-world and to colonies and settlements on other planets.

Trade & Transport

Certain Battalions are assigned to be in charge of trading with off world organizations. Chairs arbitrate trade on Auser and between colonies. These goods are transferred by means of specially designed starships, weight-bearing space vessels (Battalion and general off-world trade), Tolsaks (large land-based truck-like vehicles), and cargo freighters (Trade on-world). Ausran generally buy lots of weapons and materials- a cultural choice, due to the prevalence of military action in Ausran daily life, and the large amount of Ausran being recruited by regional and AUMO military groups and contractors. Land transport vehicles circumvent the need for roads and highways due to their hovering capabilities. Routes are well marked by lighted towers that guide transporters toward the right path if they were to get lost.

Education

Due to the lack of schools, information must be sought out. Classes are one of the ways to seek knowledge; this is how all scholarly Ausran learn. If an Ausran wants knowledge, they seek out a "teacher," most commonly a person in the specific job they desire, and enter into a class contract. These contracts are written by the "teachers," and are often guidelines or syllabi, organizing a course for inexperienced persons participating in said courses. All Ausran are expected to be able to teach their skills to a class, no matter how formal or informal the teaching may be. This applies to politicians as well. Chairs will host classes on special days and teach a class of approximately 100 students per class per day. The average educational level among the Chairs is always high, due to the way they are nominated and subsequently voted into their seats.

Infrastructure

All standard sewage and water supply. Supply lines and marked paths are illuminated by lighted towers, but there are no roads for wheeled vehicles. The AUMO HQ is the largest tower in Aeon, and functions as it's town hall. There are 5 wormhole jump entrances stationed around Auser for off-planet transport and trade. The walls and 7 guard towers surrounding Aeon defend the city from possible rampaging wildlife, something that is a problem if it isn't dealt with quickly. All major infrastructure can be attributed to the AUMO aside from this. All off-planet colonies are considered AUMO property.

Auser unites the Universe.

Currency
The member planets and settlements across the cosmos all use a monetary system dictated by the Pon. Pons can be in stamp form or digital. The stamps are small square tabs made of eunjeck fibers and certain precious metals, which also allows them to be used in a digital format. If a Pon is to be used for a digital transaction, the stamp is stripped of its precious metals. Some more recent Pons have seeds from Auseran fauna, and can be planted after digital use. Otherwise, the fibrous tab will decompose if left alone. The precious metal is deposited in a kiosk, and is then shipped to a treasury unit, where it is reinserted into a new line of Pon stamps. The Pon in question can be spent digitally from this point on. The fibrous tabs are more symbolic than anything, bearing the face of Braccus Grier and the motto of the AUMO. The real currency lies within the precious recirculated metals. The Pon hovers steadily at an exchange rate of roughly 30x that of USD. As a colleague of mine jokingly put it, "Earth green doesn't pay the space bills." Loopholes have been devised in the Pon system, however, make it a more volatile currency as of late, so I would advise against investing too heavily into Pon.
Major Exports
Weapons- guns, blades, explosives, you name it, we have it- and we have a lot of it. It's heavily a cultural industrial crutch. But, other sentient species put in new requests for shipments of arms as often as one blinks, so it remains profitable. I have to wonder... for how long will this be the case?
Major Imports
The AUMO requires precious materials and metals from off-world planets and locations. Without these crucial resources, many of their manufacturers would have to find alternatives for certain irreplaceable metals and alloys. Some common luxuries include Terran musical instruments, music players and devices, movies, and other cultural memorabilia. The Ausran seem to have a fascination with Terran popular culture and the current zeitgeist.
Legislative Body
The laws and regulations are written and voted on by Chairs. The Head Chairperson gets the last vote, worth up to 5 extra votes. This means he/she can override a simple majority vote if they wish to do so.
Judicial Body
Select Chairs are interpreters of Ausran Standard Law. Although they are not recognized differently than other Chairs, they do wield a considerable amount of power over law and order in all territories owned by the AUMO.

Author's Notes

Terran Years.   3/20/45: I'm having Shulak write this entry. I told her she needed to "man up" and do some more chores around the house, and she told me I had to "woman up" and get a job. I'm not sure either of us are using the slang correctly. However, I have faith in her knowledge of the AUMO, considering we both worked for them most of our adult lives. This is also an opportunity to show her how long this takes. This right here is real work. I don't know what she's talking about. "Work," she says. This job makes me 150 Pon a month- that's more than her job pays, and it's enough to pay the bills. Just because I don't look like I'm doing anything important doesn't mean that I'm not.   3/22/45: She's finished.Well, mostly. I had to write in some more details that she forgot to mention. Others I left behind- I want to make it apparent that it isn't just me writing this. Goodness, I'm tired.
