Personal history
Wryn was born in the capital of Weigriff, Wyndevale, and was the first born of King William Wyndersen and Queen Helen Ward Wyndersen. Wryn was born with the fiery attitude and hair color of his mother, who was often seen by others as a politically aggressive figure. However, he did not grow old enough for these traits to begin showing until after his mother had been removed from her position of power by his father. This limited the time Wryn could spend with his mother, likely for the best as she would have poisoned his mind against the rest of his family.
Part of the controversy surrounding the political events of the time involved Wryn’s younger half sister, Wyss, an illegitimate daughter whom the King had legitimized and taken into the central family against the wishes of many. As an emotionally immature child, Wryn did not get along well with this sister or his father due to the outcasting of his mother, but as he grew older he began to better understand and sympathize with the rest of his family. This point of view was aided by his youngest sister (and only other full sibling) Willow, who he was initially closer to than Wyss or his father. Willow was only a few months younger than Wyss, but was incredibly mature, a child prodigy at their young age. Throughout the years, Willow would be Wryn’s voice of reason when the aggressive and overambitious nature of their mother came creeping in.
With the guidance of his father and siblings, Wryn grew into a highly capable leader, being very motivated to accomplish many things under the royal name. He completed arms training and much of his formal education by his mid to late teens, and was an unstoppable force in practice skirmishes. Despite his leadership qualities, his interests in politics were quite minimal. He prefered a military lifestyle in favor of a political one. World relations were very stable at the time however, so he instead opted towards taking a position in military intelligence, which would turn out to be the perfect niche for him and prepare him for an important role he would play in the future.
Upon reaching 20, he and his intelligence team arrived at a particularly strange scenario in a small town in the northern reaches of Weigriff. Various people in the town had gone missing, enough so that the Weigriff military was notified by the local authorities to investigate. The investigation turned up something that seemed to out of a literal nightmare: a previously well-respected and wealthy ranch owner in the area was abducting the local populace to conduct experiments with necromancy. His team discovered undead monstrosities and magic at his mansion that they were nowhere near prepared to handle. Wryn and a few other military members were barely able to escape with their lives.
The remaining townsfolk were immediately evacuated and the town was quarantined and sent additional troops to maintain barricades. Necromancy was an illegal magical practice that usually only resulted in much smaller consequences, but what was happening at the mansion was something far worse than anything ever encountered in recorded history. Over the months that followed, the Weigriff military tried to quietly contain and dispose of the powerful dark force that resided in the mansion, but continued to be unsuccessful.
During the campaign against the necromancer, a mysterious and powerful duo appeared by the names of Cid and Jetta who seemed to have some sort of innate ability to resist and counter dark magic. Wryn recruited the two for a final assault against the necromancer, as it was believed by observation of the area surrounding the quarantined town that something cataclysmic was about to occur. Like all other assaults before however, it failed. The spell that was being channeled was raising the dead all over the continent, and implanting a portion of the necromancer’s essence into unfortunate victims whose mind’s became controlled in a hive like manner.
In the next few years that passed, the dark corruption spread further and thicker, unable to be contained by normal military action. It seemed as though the royal family and its guards would be vulnerable to infiltration, and that no one could be safe from the threat. However, soon after the spread of dark magic, it was discovered that Wryn’s half sister, Wyss, could detect and remove the effects of mind control magic from afflicted individuals. This allowed them to secure high priority people and locations, but it would have been an implausible and incredibly risky feat to have her attempt to slowly cure the masses.

King William ordered the creation of a small covert group of elites, code named The Huntsmen, tasked with finding more realistic solutions to a problem that could not be handled by military force alone. The Huntsman, headed by Wryn, his siblings, and long time veteran military leaders, determined that the continued spread of corruption was being orchestrated by a small group of powerful cultist necromancers hiding amongst the people. If they could eliminate those in control, then they could halt and reverse the spread. Thus began a long behind the scenes struggle between The Huntsmen and the cultists.
