The gods worshiped in Velamare are different from gods in other part in the world, as they are all former doges (grand merchants, they control the city). If a doge manages to accomplish great deeds, priests of the republic perform rituals upon him, rituals that end his mortal life but make him ascend into godhood. People pray to them, statues get erected, all of that helps to grant them great power. They do not have the same power as some of the older gods in other parts of the world. The pantheon is a tight pantheon, with the founder of the republic as its leader, and the other gods being his servants. The deities don’t have specialized domains, instead people choose their god based on family connections and which doge family has power over them.
