Centaur

Across the fields they ran into battle, slicing through their enemy. They never stood a chance as an army of one thousand against the army of only a hundred.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Half horse and half man, the centaur is quite the beast. Standing typically between seven and nine feet tall, and weighing anywhere from eight hundred to three thousand pounds they are a force to be reckoned with. Their fur and skin color ranges in color as much as any horse or human does. Their hooves tend to be slightly more hardened than that of a horse but not to any noticeable degree. Instead of a horse's mane they tend to grow long hair from their heads stretching down their backs and/or off to the side of their bodies.

Genetics and Reproduction

They reproduce as many other mammalian creatures do, with a few differences. They only carry their young inside of them for two to three months after which the mother gives live birth.

Growth Rate & Stages

Immediately after birth the Centaur is able to walk albeit clumsily. Within ten years it is considered an adolescent, and within fifteen they are considered fully grown adults. Although it does not take them long to mature they do tend to live slightly longer than humans at around ninety years.

Ecology and Habitats

Most often found in the plains of central to eastern Europe they are typically a nomadic race and wander from place to place in search of game to hunt.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Centaurs tend to be a hunter gatherer race not unlike early Humans. Seldom will you ever see Centaurs farm or have any form of chattel outside of slaves used for physical labor, and even that is rare. They tend towards eating rabbits, bear, venison, berries, roots, fish, and any other food they can find. While not impossible, there have been no accounts of a centaur eating a humanoid.

Additional Information

Social Structure

At the top of a Centaur tribe is the Chieftain, from there there are elders (effectively Centaur nobles), and below that is the religious class, below them are the warriors, and below them are everyone else.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Although the hunting of Centaurs is frowned upon by civilized society, some big game hunters may seek them for trophies. Their hearts, being exceedingly large, also are a key ingredient in several incantations.

Average Intelligence

They are sapient and tend to live in nomadic tribes.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their perception is typical of most other humanoid races.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

While men and women are typically equal in Centaur society, women are often tasked with simpler duties such as hunting small game or venison, while the men are off to war.

Common Dress Code

They do not wear clothes, except for the women who will often cover their breasts, but not always.
