The upcoming war
War is coming
For both sides
Are you hoping
to avoid the tides
When the darkness
Rises up
Then the Constants
Descends down
One at both sides
are long at work
preparing for war
as was foretold.
Darkness contained
Chains are breaking
World at its core
With fear shaking
You may think you know your woe
but you misheard the first vow
When the darkness comes to attack
Wish for strength, to push it back
-Scryer Alkerina, girl who saw the future decades ahead.
Future scrying and the origin of the prophecy
One specific Corrupted limit allows people to see into the future, at a price of actually living through it and sending the accumulated memories to their past selves. These people are then called Scryers. While one would expect this to be a strictly psychological effect, it has an equivalent effect on one's physical state. A scryer who foresees the future for years ahead experiences their body getting older by an equal amount of years. Those who possess this peculiar ability are however themselves unsure of how it operates. They agree only on the fact that death is the trigger for ending the vision, but the starting point sometimes feels absolutely random. The prophecy about the war was spoken by Scryer Alkerina with her last painful breaths. Based on the number of years her body aged after witnessing the future, the upcoming war is believed to arrive in the next three to five decades.Alkerina used to be a curious young girl, a promising Raider with a specialization in observing and exceptional survival ability. It was a great loss when she was hit by the raw Corruption which triggered her limit to such a degree that she was thrown decades into the future. As she was among the first Scryers, she did not know she had to die in order to stop scrying into the future. This fact combined with her survival skills trapped her in her future until she met an unknown demise.
If you think it is good, or cool to see the future like we do, and that you would love to have our ability, you are dumber than a Soplstone. It is not an ability, but a curse. Waking constantly in the night because of memories of life you thought you lived is not cool. And dont even get me started on the fact that we are not even in control of it.Few asked if the Scryers can abuse their ability for personal gain. And they are promptly reminded that Scryers are not in control of their curse. They might try to kill themselves to get some information from the future into their past and abuse their curse this way, but the result could also be that they wake up from their vision mere moments before they meet up their demise and will end up facing the same death until their body dies of old age after facing the same few seconds over and over.-Scryer Pandoliton
Possible interpretation
Many believe that the upcoming war is tightly connected to the Source and the extremely advanced monstrosities lurking in the area near it. Others believe that the Source itself will unleash something far worse than the Corruption. Some even go so far as fearing the disapperance of The Flow, causing the fall of Atocites from the sky. A common fear among the Planners is that the death of Alkerina changed the future she was experiencing and that her absence in this timeline will have unknown impacts. Because the poem she whispered with her last breaths was the only message and very vague at that, it is uncertain who or what should people watch out for. Alkerina's family also believed that she said as little as possible, in hope of preventing the future from being caused by our attempts to prevent it, while they hoped Alkerina used her skills to find the best approach, everyone knew it was impossible, as she was untrained and did not even know how her ability to see the future works. Other who share the same ability backed up this approach, as for them the scrying into the future is the same as living it and waking from a nightmare upon death. There were few among the strongly corrupted, who claimed that she did not even make the prophecy in the first place, and instead carried the message someone in the future told her to. Curious facts about those with this claim are that they always claim the same and that they never had a chance to meet and spread this rumor to each other. The Planners are then concluding, that these individuals strongly connected to the Corruption might be able to communicate over longer distances, as they seemingly got to the very same belief on their own. Unfortunately, this was never proven to be right.Other visions of the future
While Alkerina saw future decades ahead, some other Scryers decided to try to see more into the future. What they however claim, is that the Corruption, monsters around the Atocitera, and sometimes even unluck itself focus on their presence and kill them, causing the end of the scrying. This attention seems to be focused more the longer the Scryer does not "die". As if to prevent them from seeing too far into the future. Because of this unwanted attention, Scryers age around twice as faster as others, as they are technically living two lives at once. One in their visions and the second when their bodies are catching up to what they scried.
