Engineers of Hope

The first ones who considered the present, the past, and the future. The first who decided to take actions needed for us to even have future. Their approach lives on, and kept us all alive for the past hundreds of years.

Description

Engineers of hope were the hidden alliance of educated and strong people, who disliked the increasing exploitation of common people. They pretended to work for the corrupted Kings and Lords while in fact, they were working for the good of people.
Utilizing encrypted messages in the plans and designs of the war weapons, they communicated behind the backs of war-focused monarchs. The messages needed to be very informative and had to communicate expected situations a long time before they became reality.

They were pondering for 10 years about their options, and when it became clear that there are none. They decided to create it.
The result of their labor was The Grand migration and successful survival of humans on Atocitera.

Members

Educated scholars, various researchers, and even strong leader types among the enslaved people. Those were the people who opposed the Kings and Lords behind their backs. The secrecy was most important, as everyone would be executed if they were found out.
It was not common to see members of the Engineers of Hope commit suicide and frame it on sabotage to cover tracks after signs of more serious suspicion.
New members were always informed after their beliefs were checked and confirmed to stand against the monarchs. It was also convenient for the monarchs, as any rebelling person stopped rebelling after just one life threat. This sudden cessation was caused by the threatened person being recruited by the Engineers. They knew they needed to go on with the monarchs so they could work against them.
Leader-type slaves had one purpose. To keep other slaves from forming independent rebellions.
Their part was tough. It was their call onto who should receive more of the very scarce support that the higher-ranked Engineers could provide. However, thanks to the extra portions of food given to those who were capable, only the very strong and determined slaves survived until it was time to take action.
While conscience weighted heavily onto the slave leaders, in the end, they found that if they would have to take care of the weak, it would cost them their life and the entire Grand migration would fail.

Their enemies were the Kings, lords and armies. Technicaly the world itself. They knew if they dont take action, it will be all over for the common people and then for the humans on Atocitera as a whole.

Enemies

The Kings, Lords, and anyone in the seat of power with some men following them were causing war all over Atocitera. Common folks were either recruited into the army or send to work as slaves. Luckily the Engineers convinced monarchs that even slaves working on various needed parts of the infrastructure needed someone strong. The monarchs however grew more paranoid with each year, so almost all of them created a version of hidden police which had to root out traitors and spies.
In desperate times come desperate people. Suspicions were enough to cause deeper investigations. The Engineers in higher positions could luckily either vouch for each other or straight out manipulate the investigations if an Engineer was a member of the hidden police team.
Unfortunately, these rats were life-threatening for slaves. A single successful rat could result in many slaves losing their lives. The use of scarce support rations was wasted on these greedy people. As such, the slaves had to resort to violence and killing among themselves whenever they suspected someone would make up stories just to get extra food.

To run, to save the weak ones, to ensure there is a future. Those were their aims. Little did they knew that in order for the plan to succeed, the strong ones among the weak would have to become even stronger. And that the weaknesses we had in our past would soon disappear as we had to move on.

Goal

For many years the Engineers of Hope were trying to find a way out of the mess that was caused by The Cataclysm. They were trying to secretly undermine the power of the monarchs, but it instead increased their power, as the inhumane ways the Engineers pointed out even inspired the armies following the monarchs. Unfortunately, Corruption took a deep hold over the monarchs and their armies. Morals and humanity was slowly leaving them and appealing on it were fruitless

When the Engineers realized the futility of their attempts, the plan for the Grand migration was formed.
To escape from the corruption-ridden falling kingdoms and try to rebuild on the Atocites. Many of the slaves considered the plan to be crazy, but they also knew it was the only option.

Future

After the Grand migration, the survival of the people became the next priority. Quickly checking what resources they have available at their new home and figuring out how to get the crucial ones. The first few cycles were dangerous, but the clever Engineers quickly saw the pattern in the cycle of their Atocite and learned to plan accordingly.
That was the beginning of the Planners.
The planners, again and again, proved their thinking and ability to prepare for the worst-case scenario with a plan. It then came naturally that no one questioned their decisions.
Even though the planners considered themselves peers with the people, they were unofficially the leaders of the newly founded settlements.
