Twin Kingdoms of Orle and Lonne

In the face of growing military and economic power of Lysandria, the two kingdoms of Lonne and Orle, despite having little in common, formed a royal marriage between Prince Peire of Orle was married to Princess Serenna of Lonne and Princess Anais of Orle was betrothed to Prince Then, then Duke of the Isle. It was intended that this double-marriage would create an iron-forged alliance between the two kingdoms in the face of Lysandrian aggression, as Lonne already had lost all territory east of The Spine of the Dragon.   However, with the unexpected, untimely, and heirless death of Prince Peire, Princess Anais became first in line for the Orlan throne. As a result, their only heir, Princess Imonetta, became Queen of Lonne and then later Queen of Orle.   Orle and Lonne have had a long history of less than friendly rivalry, and lesser nobles as well as commoners in Orle are disgruntled at their foreign rule. Lonnites, though proud sailors, are generally viewed with disdain from Orlans, who pride themselves on ironwork and industry and view Lonnites as superstitious, foul-smelling drunkards.   While no pretender to the Orlan throne has openly issued a challenge, there are rumors of Orlan nobility musing over who might have claim to the title who would make a better Queen than some Lonnite. After all, with The Spine of the Dragon largely shielding Orle itself from Lysandrian aggression, a Lysandrian army would probably attack through Lonne anyway...
