ATLAS

ATLAS (official code: AT-145) is a space station located in low earth orbit. Its initial purpose was to replicate life on earth as closely as possible, down to the weather cycles. Initial plans were made in 2021, but due to a few delays and controversies, construction only began in 2029 and finally finished in 2037. It was the pinnacle of humanity's technological advancements. But in the year 2039, with the threat of a nuclear holocaust looming over the earth, a part of humanity started to relocate to the station. Until finally on December 31, the nuclear war ended, along with society and its people.

It has a total area of 621 km². Due to its shape and the way it was built, it doesn't allow for any expansions and therefore stays the same size. It consists of the bottom side (the docks, engines, some really weird research, the gritty stuff) and the top side (basically everything else.) It has a weather algorithm that controls the artificial holographic sky, even occasionally creating rain.

Since 2038, ATLAS has its own nation and laws. Its government system mostly references western democracies, though it's slowly descending into authoritarianism. ATLAS was not part of the United Nations but was involved with earth politics until the end in 2039. Its official language is English, but since the remnants of humanity from many different countries were clustered in the station, dozens of languages are spoken in ATLAS.
