Savata of Cayey Character in Atlantica | World Anvil

Savata of Cayey

Savata of Cayey was born on the southern side of the mountains of Boriken to a small village in the cooler regions of the mountains founded around a beautiful spring. She grew up in an idyllic environment, swimming in the spring fed stream in the mountains, hunting and harvesting fruit to take to market. It was here in the forests hunting that her imagination and the stories of far away places gripped her. She began to train as a warrior, which while not common, is something that the Taino respect in a woman that gives herself to it. She learned the old ways of the warrior and by the time she was 16 had earned enough clout and money to get her first sacred tattoo, an ornate magical one that makes her even more formidable.   When she was 18 she went on her first counter raid against the Harionak and earned a reputation as a skilled tracker as well as a formidable warrior. It was here that she developed a taste for a good two-handed sword, which she uses to her advantage with her strength and speed. She has waged several campaigns against the Harionak, both on the mainland and in the surrounding islands. The Harionak have come to know and fear her name.   While she is considered only average in her appearance, she is amazingly strong and very athletic. Many say she is the strongest person on Boriken. She has taken home prizes from the arena in The City of Puerto Rico several times. She is steeped in the old ways of her people and reflects the best of that tradition in her skills as a warrior, tracker and hunter. And yet she isn't afraid to embrace the new things coming from over the ocean, like her steel breastplate and enchanted bracers. Furthermore, she vigorously hates the K'Thonim, and her adventures have taken her to ruins and against strange beasts that have taught her all she needs to know about their servants.   Savata is a hero to many people, especially on the surrounding islands, where she has helped stop the Harionak.  She has earned the respect of many war leaders, and they often seek her out when engaging the Harionak.  She is also highly sought as a guide to the mainland as she has many connections to the various tribes there, including the peaceful S'soran tribes.   Yet, the people that she has the most impact with are the women of the Taino.  She exemplifies the Taino outlook, being both adaptive while still honoring the traditions of those that came before them and resisted the evils around them since the days of the The Great Darkening.  Strong, independent and having the respect of men around her has permanently earned her a place as a hero in the eyes of the Taino women.
"We were hiding in the bushes from the Harionak. Though they had fought fiercely, our men had tried and failed to stop them. My daughter was watching as they started to kill the wounded. I put my hand over her mouth so she could not scream. In truth I might have screamed myself. Suddenly in a blur there she was. My word is true. She crossed from the jungle to the edge of the villiage at one of the fastest sprints I had ever seen and that sword made a sort of splashing sound and one of the cannibals was down... then the next... and the next after that.

To this day my young daughter asks me if Savata will come to dinner today and if she can grow up to be just like her."

Hi there! You may not know me, but I am the sponsor of the Great Leader of Their People Summer Camp Prompt this year! Since you wrote this article, I would like to know, would you mind me reading it aloud on my Twitch channel this week? I have a lot to get through so it helps to do it live while people watch. I've scheduled to go live at 8am and 8pm Eastern Time every weekday. If you join and comment, I can go over your article right then and there! If you'd like to coordinate a specific date, let me know. If you aren't able to make it (or don't want to be present live), you can also always watch streams after the fact on my YouTube channel   BUT, if the answer is NO because you'd rather I not, it's okay! Not agreeing to be streamed definitely does not put you at any disadvantage for winning in my eyes. Please respond swiftly by replying here (make sure to click REPLY under my comment or I won't be notified), message me on my World Anvil profile page, Discord, or anywhere else you find me online.   Thanks again! Whatever you choose, God bless and much success! <3

oh dear I took a break for a while looking at atlantica after july, I came back and found this. I would LOVE to have it read and I hope that if you did that it went over well.

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
