Bifork Settlement in Atelier | World Anvil

Bifork

Bifork is a small river town on the eastern border of Equiny which serves as a trading post between Equiny and Forgen. Merchants, loggers, and fishermen use the river to transport goods to various locales, as it is the largest river on the western side of the continent.

Demographics

Bifork is largely human with a small collection of tabaxi. Most of the inhabitants are loggers or fishermen, though there are some artisans who sell their goods to the merchants using the river as transportation.

Government

Bifork is run by the leader of the logging guild, who at this time is Riviera Logsmith. As the town is dependent on the logging industry to maintain its economy, they who lead the loggers de facto lead the town. They are given the ceremonial title of "reeve," but that is primarily for bureaucratic purposes when the rare kingdom official comes to visit. In truth, the town runs more like a massive logging camp than a traditional village or settlement.

Defences

Bifork is located between two forks of the river, and so has a natural barrier against any approaching force. Wooden walls surround the town proper with guard houses spaced evenly among them. There are two primary entrances to the town, both of which are stone bridges across each fork of the river. At the town's end of each bridge is a drawbridge that can be raised in case of any incursion.

Industry & Trade

Bifork's economy is almost entirely dependent on their logging industry, which employs half the inhabitants. Most of the remainder is dedicated to supporting infrastructure, such as farming and smithing, though there are a few artisans who sell their goods to merchants travelling the river.

Geography

The city is located between two forks of a large river that flows from the Knifepeak Mountains far to the north. Once heavily forested, the town has carved out a large swath of timber around it, creating a small plains amidst the otherwise massive woodland that dominates the countryside.

Natural Resources

Bifork has an abundance of large, old-growth trees that are hardy and well-suited for all manner of woodworking. Bifork's timber is considered among the highest quality for construction purposes.
