Olmir
The New World, a brave land of danger, adventure, and exploration!
Just over a century ago, the continent was discovered by explorers from Atalia. Explorers moving inward from the shore quickly discovered a mountain range rife with precious stones, and from there it wasn't long before both the mining town of Athun and the great port city Pontil, City of Jewels were founded to gather and trade the continent's resources. However, with the exception of a small area of cleared farmland to provide for these two settlements, efforts to expand the reach of civilization have been largely fruitless.
Geography
The port at Pontil is the only location yet discovered suitable for landing deep water ships. Reefs, shallows, and the occasional island block access to the mainland as far as anyone has been willing to venture to the north and south, not to mention a few reported cases of sea monsters and the occasional exploratory vessel that vanishes without a trace.
Pontil sits at the mouth of the river Athun, which runs southeast from the Ellades Mountains to the sea. The river takes its name from the mining town at its base. The land around much of the river has been cleared and cultivated into farmland, but towards the mountains it is still surrounded largely by untamed wilderness.
South of the river and farmland lies the Graulen Wood, a forest much like those in Atalia but teeming with orcs and goblinoids. Towards the shore the wood gives way to the Lauferren Plains, home to both herds of bison and packs of gnolls. The Ellades continue as far to the south as anyone has yet explored.
North of the river, the Graulen Wood turns into the Dresguln Swamp, and the orcs and goblins turn to rarer but nastier monsters. North of the farmlands, along the shore, is the Great Salt Marsh, a low-lying saltwater marsh and floodplain. Past adventurers have reported sighting an end to the Ellades within the swamp, several weeks northward.
Natural Resources
Many precious stones are found in the mines of Athun, especially sapphire and ruby. The Graulen Wood and Dresguln Swamp would make excellent sources of lumber and there is plenty of land that could be used for farming or living space, if it wasn't for all the monsters and other dangers of the wilderness. Ruins and artifacts can also be found in the areas further from Pontil, though calling these natural resources is perhaps a bit of a stretch.
