House Rules

General

  • Using variant rules for encumbrance on PHB 176, but well-fitted armor counts as half its weight when worn
  • Altered starvation/dehydration rules Show Spoiler
    Characters who spend more than one week without food, one day without water, or one hour in an extreme environment without adequate clothing suffer the effects of exhaustion (see PHB appendix A). After each of these periods, they suffer two levels of exhaustion, or half that on a successful DC 15 Constitution save.   Exhaustion caused by lack of food or water can’t be removed until the character spends a day eating (or drinking) the full required amount. Every day eating (or drinking) the full required amount removes one day from the accumulated total time without. Consuming half rations counts as a half day without food; consuming half the necessary amount water counts as a full day without, but the Constitution save passes automatically.
  • Consuming a potion is a bonus action, but administering one is still a full action.

Combat

  • Flanking gives a +2 to hit
  • Non-ranger animal companions Show Spoiler
    Animal companions, when recruited, will generally follow you and make at least some effort to please you. If the animal has multiattack, it loses it while it is with you. The animal may leave if its instincts override its friendship, at the DM's discretion.   In combat, the animal will act defensively, but you may use your action or bonus action to direct it to move or take an action. Simply calling the animal towards you is a free action. If you have multiple animals with you, you may choose to direct all of them at once or any single animal or subgroup, but you cannot direct two groups differently with the same action. If you direct an animal to attack, it may continue to do so on subsequent turns, or it may wait until you direct it again, depending on circumstance and the animal's personality. If the animal has decided to continue to attack, getting it to stop will require another action or bonus action.

Small Tweaks

  • Altered Goodberry

    /*Goodberry*/

    to require berries as a material component
  • There are some tweaks to the Ranger's Natural Explorer feature and Outlander's Wanderer feature in the Travel Rules
