The Confederation of Terratus' Middle Realms

A recently formed counterweight to the Empire, the Confederation of Terratus’s Middle Realms (or Midlands for short) broke off soon after the death of Emperor Nominar. It is formed by a number of smaller member states, which are ruled by aristocrats, all of whom answer or directly participate in The Council of Six.   Religion is one of the reasons behind the split of the Empire and the Midlands. While the Empire quickly accepted Nominar as the newest addition to the pantheon, many of the people of Midlands are against worshipping the newfound God of Humanity. These people tend to flock the banner of the Traditionalist Church, which is based in Mitdorf.

Structure

An oligarchic state in its nature, the Midlands is ruled by the six most powerful individuals of the realm, The Council of Six. Beneath them, the traditional feudal hierarchy is placed. The title of **Consul** (member of the Council) can be held at the same time as any other, given the individual has proven himself worthy of membership. The nobles of the Middle Realms have next to no issues with fighting out a feud on the fields of battle, and as the Council is usually too busy arguing between itself, intervention is improbable. Perhaps the only thing capable of bringing the Council together would be an outside threat.

Public Agenda

The goals of the Council fluctuate as it's different members rise to prominence while pushing their personal agendas. This results in a state with often contradicting laws and generally hasn't been a successfully manageable way of ruling.

Assets

The armies of the Midlands are fearsome and well trained, as they often face off against each other in battle. Should they be united under one banner and fight for a common cause, they would pose a serious threat to anyone who would oppose them.   While not as wealthy as the Empire, the Midlands still gain a considerable amount of gold from their trade connections due to their strategic position in the middle of the continent.

History

Immediately after the news of the Emperor's death had spread, many of the nobles further north from the capital saw the opportunity to break off from the Empire and establish a small kingdom of their own accord. The most powerful of them instead brokered an agreement and formed the Confederation of Terratus' Middle Realms, installing themselves as the governing body within the Council of Six.
