Goblinoids
Goblinoid society is said to be the farthest sophisticated culture in the world, having been isolated from most other cultures for centuries. As such, they have developed in a distinctively different way, evident from their language to their philosophy. In the goblinoid mind, there is no greater virtue than self-sacrifice for the community. Originally smaller and weaker than their centaur neighbours, early goblin culture was one of pragmatic survivalism, a trait that led to a breeding program that gave rise to the hobgoblins, who were stronger and smarter. Normally, it might be expected that the hobgoblins usurp authority over the goblins; however, their strong collectivist ethos saw the hobgoblins instead integrate peacefully into goblinoid society as bureaucrats and advisors to the Broad Chamber, the democratic assembly that governed the goblins. In time, the intention is for all goblins to evolve into hobgoblins - though there are dissenters who have established their own breakaway state in the more isolated hills, where they dwell in peace.
With the evolution of the hobgoblins came an era of prosperity, as the goblins were finally able to drive out centaur raiders from the Perlis Hills en masse. Poetry and literature flourished, while technological advancement allowed the establishment of the massive urban centre of Kota Perlis, the first city to have proper sewerage, a constabulary force, and the world-renowned hydroponic Stacked Gardens that allowed the city to remain self-sufficient within its one-hundred foot thick walls. Goblinoid society also experienced the first consolidation and compilation of a state religion, the worship of Gereloth, the Mother of Invention. Yet for all their ingenuity, the goblinoid peoples are loathe to leave their isolated home, partially out of a (justifiable) arrogance at the relative disparity between their society and others, and partially out of a deep-seated fear of exploitation and brutalisation that has never faded from their racial psyche.
Goblinoids speak the Goblin language, but are generally also capable of speaking Leican Elven due to their infrequent encounters with the Tenkassarese elves.
