The Hole

Just off the northern most coast of the central continent, there is a place, a wide and deep hole at the peak of an enormous mound jutting out of the ocean. Many legends have been written about this place, but none took root in the minds of the people as much as did the legend of The Hole: the entrance to the core of Sanctuary. This legend has been passed on from person to person over the centuries and even written about as near-fact in most historical accounts of the world.

Spread

The legend of The Hole is most accepted by those living on the continenet closest to its location, however all across the various lands of Sanctuary, there are differing stories as to what exactly The Hole is. Many believe it to be a mere dormant volcano with an unusally carved inner wall, but most recognize it as something ancient and mysterious, and therefore to be avoided both in person and in thought.

In Art

Millas Gret, one of the most renowned and meticulous of history's artistic masters, painstakingly created a mural of The Hole's inner chambers which he saw in-person during the first recorded expeditionary ventures to the northernmost points of Sanctuary. Millas spent well over a decade fine-tuning every detail of his painting, returning multiple times to the location of The Hole to take sketches and notes, then traveling back to the Velus Templa in Vhet-Liem where his mural was portrayed on the inside of the worship hall ceiling to continue the work. Millas Gret seemed to be fixated on getting the artistic rendition exactly right, and even came back to the mural multiple times, after its supposed completion, to edit minor points. It was during one of these editing sessions that the Vale fell and Gret and his painting of the Hole, disappeared into time, though his haunting sketchbook is stored in the archival halls of the King's Templa.
