The Siege of Aurum Invicta
At the end of the Troigh Leud the Giants under command of thane Svengir Hammerarm pushed deep into the dwarven homeland. As the Giants approached the legendary city they quickly realised that even their bulk would not be enough break through its gates. The massive golden gates were impossible to smash through, and the walls were part of the mountain itself with slits which the dwarves could use to endlessly rain down arrows from.
They Giants made a deal with the nearby dragons, and during the siege they had assembled a squad of dragons which aided them in melting down the gates of the fortress. The dragons breath fire down on the gates for a week, melting it little by little as the dwarves shot their ballista at them. Many dragons were shots down but eventually the gates were reduced to a mere puddle, and the giants rushed into the opening.
The giants swarmed the streets of Aurum Invicta, but the dwarves were not about to just give their city to them. They made them fight for every inch of city, causing cave ins to block roads and raining buckets of hot iron down from their forges to kill as many as possible. However it was to no avail and after 35 days of battle the Kaiser and his remaining asked for a peace treaty in exchange for their lives
The Conflict
Prelude
Thane Svengir Hammerarm knew his people would not be able to break through the gates without a great lost of giant life. For five days he sat in his tent, thinking about what they could do to swiftly deal with these gates, until one day one of his elite guards screamed for his attention. A Dragon just flew over and the giants suspected that it might turn back and attack. It just flew off again but this dragon, it gave Svengir an idea: What if we could melt down the gates. The thane quickly grabbed his stuff and commanded his man to follow him. Together they stalked the dragon to its layer, in which Svengir Hammerarm humbly asked for an audience. He explained his situation to the dragon, and asked for its and its kinsman's aid in exchange for all the treasures which the fortress might hold. The dragon greedily accepted, almost salivating at the thought of the gold inside and flew off to its fellow dragons. And as such the dragons would join the siege on the giant side.
After the giants captured Aurum Invicta the dwarves were forced to sign a peace treaty. They would leave the mountains and release their vassals. Many of the old generals refused to recognise the kaiser any longer after his shameful defeat against the savages and declared independence.
After they where forced to leave their mountain homes behind the dwarves went into diaspora. The kaiser moved into the small sea side city called Tyria Rupes and declared it as the new capitol. The next couple of centuries of the dwarven imperium were filled with iron, steel, and the reconquest of the rogue kingdoms.
Historical Significance
The dwarves look back at the end of the Troigh Leud with anger and rage and to this day they still bear a deep hatred for Giants and to a lesser extend for the dragons that aided them.
Many dwarven songs still sing about the lost city, reminding the dwarves if its beauty, its white halls, its golden gates, and its throne room which displayed the might of dwarvenkind for all to see.
