The art of non-Elemental Magic

"Its not possible! None has ever been able to fly!"

Non-Elemental magic is the name for spells which do not influence elemental mana, and by extension the elements themselves as traditional elemental magic does. Non-Elemental spells are by their nature more complex than traditional spells as the require more effort of the caster to turn the loose fractals of mana into something physical.

Discovery

Before event horizon most scholars agreed that magic could only be created by manipulating elemental mana. Anything that didn't use the four elements of air, water, fire, and earth was not true magic, but instead just a similar phenomenon which could simply be explained as the rare gifts of the divine or dark powers. A cleric after all wielded his abilities through prayer and a druid through their friendship with nature. These were hardly invocations or spells in the eyes of the ancient magi and so they were dismissed. After the great city of Al-Kanish disappeared however many of the arcane scholars, both young and old, discovered themselves to be sensitive to new fractals of magic. First they manipulated them by accident, a sudden bolt of pure energy here, a shield there, and a random animated goat head in the orc lands. But slowly they learned how to control these new spells and began to write them down and all had to agree, this was non-elemental magic.

Availability

Before its discovery by the scientific community it were primarily the druidic circles and religious orders who were able to wield and control non-elemental magic, with the rare warlock showing themselves on the radar from time to time. However now that its secrets are revealed to the arcane scholars of Astronasia and the nature of mana is better understood almost everyone who knows the right rituals and incantations and has enough willpower to bend mana to their will can cast non-elemental magic.
