Makanium

Makanium, also known as Makager, is a magical crystal which can be used either as a magical battery for devices or as a conduit for magical charge. Makanium has been known to the general public for generations, but it is only now that it has become wildly sought after when its magical properties were discovered.    The discovery of a way to use makanium as a magic conduit has kick started an technological revolution in Astronesia. These scientists are using the properties of the two types of makanium to create several impressive magical devices such as self lighting torches, magic shooting turrets, and, according to some rumours, even life-extending devices. Everyday more and more discoveries are made about the ussage of makanium which has many scholars and artificers excited. However there are some who believe this experimentation goes to far and could soon lead the world to a new disaster at the same scale as the Event Horizon.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Makanium crystals are shaped like bulky arrowheads, with the bigger ones looking almost like crystal daggers.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Orange Makanium crystals have the ability to store mana inside of itself, which the green crystals can conduct and release back into the wild.

History & Usage

History

Makanium is named after the goddess of war, Maka, who is believed to have created the crystals during a contest with the god of magic Gamelon. The two gods got into a argument over which was stronger, magic or rock. Gamelon claimed that magic could easily beat rock. While Maka argued that her rocks could crush his wimpy magic. Eventually the debate got so heated that the two decided to settle it once and for all.   They went to battle and Maka tried to get in the first strike. She threw every type of rock at her disposal at the floaty god, but he matched her blow for blow. First she threw coal at him, but he set it aflame with psychonic mana. Then she sent iron at him, but he rusted it away with elemental mana. In frustration she lobbed a boulder at him, but he split it in two with phonic mana. Her limestone plates he eroded away with corrosion mana, her glass shards he exploded with radiant mana, and her clay soldiers fell lifeless to the ground when hit with necrotic mana. Some even believe that some of that necrotic mana hit Maka herself.   As her opponent seemed to outclass her at every possibility she retreated to a cave to sulk and think. None of her rocks seemed to provide the answer to her problem, until she came with an idea. She didn't have to crush the magic (no matter how fun that might be), she just had to beat it. So she created a crystal that could store magic in itself, effectively making it useless.   Gamelon was laughing and howling harder than he ever had before when he saw her return to the battlefield with a tiny dagger-shaped crystal. "This is the last trick in your box, huntress?" he asked her. "Believe me, it is all that I will need. Prepare to be buried jester!" She replied and she began to charge at him with a crystal in each of her hands, one green and one orange. The god of magic thew a bolt of arcane mana at her which dashed at her with the speed of lightning but she managed to parry it with the orange crystal. Gamelon had expected the crystal to shatter under the immense pressure of the magical power, but was bitterly surprised when he saw it not only in one piece, but glowing! Maka quickly pointed the green crystal at the god, and returned the bolt straight to the face of the sender. With this the battle was concluded. Gamelon had to accept that stones were better than magic and Maka threw the crystals at the ground with rest of her creations where they would eventually become Makanium.

Everyday use

When magic enters green makanium it travels from one end to the other. When turned into dust the green makanium can become be used to form invocations. Once the magic passes through these invocations it becomes charges as if a magic user had cast a spell and once it leaves the makanium circuit it releases itself as the spell that the invocations channelled.   Orange makanium is used as a type of magical battery for mana, which can be charged my people with magical abilities. This charge is stored up in the crystal and can eventually be released with the help of a green makanium connection. The mana will then bleed from the orange crystal into the green crystal and travel through it until it finds its way out.
