Fyuulming

Fyuulming (pronounced with a silent F) is an annual harvest festival celebrating family, food, and Floris, god of agriculture. The festival is celebrated at last day of the Season of the Serpent when all the crops have been harvested.

Execution

The day of Fyuulming starts with a morning visit to a local temple or shrine dedicated to either Floris, his twin sister Fiona, his mother Shima, or his grandmother Maka. There families pay tribute to the gods for the plentiful harvest and leave them small offerings. These offerings are often include an element for each of the four gods; incense for Floris, meat for Fiona, fish for Shima, and a beautiful rock for Maka.   Around the middle of the day a market opens in the centre of town were people can buy agrarian produces and traditional Fyuulming dishes. Around the market there are several sources of entertainment with which visitors can amuse themselves. There are bards playing music, actors giving life performances from the top of their wagons, and a somewhat controversial activity called idolball but which gnomes refer to as "the Kickening". During idolball an 80 centimetre tall wooden idol of Floris is kicked as far as possible. However there are some problematic communities who use a life gnome instead, who is sometimes willing, but not always...   Once evening comes the family comes together to cook a feast meal which they share with each other and close friends. However before everyone digs into the food they give one last prayer to Floris in gratitude for the delicious feast before them and for the bountiful harvest.

Components and tools

During the festival it is generally forbidden to eat animal products or seafood because they aren't created by Floris. While some communities have eased up on this restriction it can still be seen back in traditional Fyuulming dishes. These are exclusively vegetarian and exists mostly out of simple to farm ingredients such as wheats and pulses. The most well known of these traditional dishes is known as Fanyai. Fanyai is a steamed wheat cake shaped like a tree which is filled with a sweet bean paste.
