Crown of beasts

The crown of beasts is a circular crown made out of a silver circlet. In the centre of the circlet sits the upper half of the skull of a Megalania who’s eyes are set with jasper orbs. Behind that are two rows of Megalania ribs and an fifth one right behind the skull. These ribs curve over the head of the wearer leaving only a small open hole on the top.
Those who wear the crown of beasts are able to control up to five wild animals with their mind alone. The crown channels the thoughts and desires of the wearer through the runes inside of the Megalania skull. Animals controlled by the crown have a faint green glow in their eyes, which can also be observed in the jewelled eyes of the crown itself, although this light grows stronger with every additional animal that is controlled.

History

The crown was made in ancient times by a Gnoll jeweller who crafted the ornamental crown as a wedding gift for his chieftain who’s only known as “monitor butcher” nowadays. Here the crown passed on from generation to generation as the royal crown of the Bintor tribe until it eventually came into the possession of a magically inclined prince. The prince desired to proof his arcane prowess, so he began to turn the family heirloom into his masterwork. He carefully carved several magical runes on the inside of the skull and began to speak the invocations. Streams of mana flew from his body into the jasper eyes of the skull. The prince collapsed to the ground, his magic drained. As he come back to his senses the prince saw the eyes of the skull shine. His masterpiece was completed. With the power of the crown he became master over beasts, which he used for everything from transport to personal soldiers, he became celebrated throughout the region.
