Mirror of Yearning
What would you do if you could go back and fix any mistake you’ve made?
Legend tells us of twin mirrors forged many years ago. One, the mirror of yearning. The other, the mirror of aversion. No one knows who created these mirrors or why. Not much is known about the mirror of aversion, this is not our story. Our story is about the Mirror of Yearning. Recent stories mention that it shows you what would happen if you changed mistakes you’ve made. If you could go back how would your life be different from what it is now? The mirror makes this possible. You can travel through the mirror and live that life if you so wish. How bad could it be?
The dwarves of Astrenium believe the mirror to be cursed. Both mirrors in fact. They wonder how anything could be better if you changed your past. Nothing good can come from this magic. They aren’t sure what the curse does but they are sure it’s there. They warn about the mirrors. Do not seek them for they will bring you nothing but pain and sorrow.
Kings all over the world seek the magic of this mirror, often hiring adventurers to find the mirror(s) and bring them back. However, this has not been a fruitful practice. Adventurers either find nothing or they never return. Luckily for the kings, payment is due upon delivery. Unfortunately for the adventurers if they do return from their quest, they have nothing to show for it.
The human king of (kingdom) believes he is deserving of this mirror. He will stop at nothing to get it into his possession. He never elaborates as to why he deserves it or what he will do with it. As a king he already has everything he wants or needs…
