Desert Toad - Frong

Desert toads are a medium sized amphibian creature that can live in dry climates. They range in colors of gray, sand, and green. They do not live long according to records. The oldest frong ever recorded was 50 years old. Some are very tall and very fat. While others are very small. They range from 3 1/2 feet to 8 feet tall depending on their color. They way no less than 150lbs and can get up to 400lbs. Frongs have developed a whole civilization under the Solaris desert. They have their own politics (a queen who is about to be 51 and become the longest living frong), their own religions (cult of Hetrick), and societies. It is thought that they come from the goddess Hetrick, god of the cosmos, ruler of the astral plane. The oldest stories mention the god Ceval sending "gifts" to his wife Hetrick. These so-called gifts were generally critters. Hetrick would morph the gifts into monsters to roam her realm. Frongs came from a giant toad Ceval sent. She thought “what better way to create a monstrosity than making it bigger!” That’s really all she did other than giving them a few extra properties, like magic resistance. Frongs are solely devoted to Hetrick and believe all should worship her greatness. This is something to remember as it can get you into a lot of trouble if you don’t worship their goddess.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Frongs can live up to 50 years depending on they race their host was. If the host was a: Elf - you get the Gray Frongs that can live 50 years. There are no recordings of them exceeding this age Humans - you get the sand colored frongs, which is a perfect camouflage in the desert of Solaria. These frongs can live uo to 30 years. Goblins and Halflings - become Green Frongs and have a life expectancy of 15 years.

Genetics and Reproduction

Frong reproduce by implanting eggs into a host. Most can do so with their extra claws that kind of act as an ovipositor. When the creature attacks if they hit there is a chance they will implant eggs giving the host about 3 days before the tadpoles burst through the host. After the tadpoles burst they will be fully grown within a week. When fully grown they will shed their skin allowing vibrant colors to shine (unless they're gray).

Growth Rate & Stages

Each Frong starts out as an egg implanted into a host, within three days they hatch and burst through their host. Within a week from that time they will become fully grown.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Solaris desert is a very scary place, especially at night. That's because frongs burrow and hunt at night. They hunt in groups of 2 or 3 for safety. They emerge very quickly once they sense a prey. Almost instantaneous. They mostly eat cacti and salamanders. They have a cati farm near the temple. Every once in a while they will come across a party of adventurers. Their favorite treat!

Biological Cycle

The winters in the Solaris Desert are extremely cold and very harsh. The Frong settlement is underground to protect them during their hibernation period. Not all of them will want to hibernate, these few are assigned to guard the others if they're going to be awake.

Average Height

Gray Frongs are the largest ranging from 6ft - 8ft in height Sand Frongs are aroung 5ft - 6ft height and Green Frongs are much smaller they average around 3ft - 4ft in height.

Average Weight

Frongs are very fat creatures. The biggest of them weigh anywhere from 300 - 400lbs. Green Frongs don't exceed 150lbs.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Most frongs have horns on their head and additional claws. They vary in colors of gray, sand, and green. No other colors have ever been seen.
