History & Usage

History

The brewing of blood wine is a common practice among Desmodan, going back thousands of years. The process received numerous changes after The Celestial Calamity when the Mezznian Shards fell to Xoboros and the Hovering Archipelago was dragged to the Zantyran mainland.   At that time, many breweries began experimenting with the effects of the Mezznian Shards on their wines. The results were astonishing, not only enhancing the potency of the drink, but in many cases giving it unexpected benefits such as enhancing the intelligence of the Draíochta.

Everyday use

Blood Wine was originally made as a way to preserve blood through long winters while most sources of blood were in hibernation. Over the years, many Desmodan became fond of the drink and production increased. Over time, the drinking of Blood Wine has become commonplace throughout the Hovering Archipelago to the point that many Desmodon have given up drinking live blood outside of meals.    When Mezznian Shards were experimented with during the brewing process, the Desmodon realized the resulting brew was capable of increasing the intelligence of the local Draíochta and have since provided them with an ongoing supply of wine in exchange for their service protecting the archipleago. Over time, the Draíochta have even been able to harness the power of the The Facets and wield it for themselves.
