Red Crested Lava Fish

The Red Crested Lava Fish is a species of fish native to the Galaxy of Astraesto, that is most notable for its ability to travel in lava for short periods of time. The fish is in no danger of extinction, and its population has been growing across over 4 dozen planets for over a millennium.
It is theorised by scientists that the fish developed its immunity when it was introduced to a newly formed terrestrial world many millennia ago. The exact planet is unknown, although over a dozen planets have been touted as potential locations for the species' ability. Despite their need for the ability lacking in the modern age, the Lava Fish remains the only known species with the ability. 
The time the fish can spend within Lava is usually dependent upon the individual fish's age, with some of the oldest Red Crested Fish - around 60 galactic standard years, being able to travel within lava for several hours. The fish travels in schools, though some of the eldest may venture out on their own.
Military organisations especially have spent many years studying the creature, looking for a reason for its immunity. The Federation Armed Forces still continues experiments on the fish to this day, although they have come under significant criticism for doing so. Mining companies have also taken a significant interest in the species, and equipment has been developed that is able to resist extreme heat because of this interest. The Republic of Sanoliad has benefited substantially from this discovery, and hundreds of mining operations have been undertaken within the Galaxy of Sanoliad.
