Everyone knows there is some power in names, folktales warn children never to tell it to the terrible fae and the name of a god should only be invoked should the speaker be ready to for them to answer.   But Goblins know this more than any other race, for what are you as a person other than what others call you?

Basic Information

Anatomy & Morphology

Small, humanoid creatures with light brown skin and exagerated facial features.

Genetics and Reproduction

Standard mammal reproduction 3 month pregnancy, usually gives birth to 2-3 children.

Ecology and Habitats

Usually settles in cave systems with easy access to outside world, enabling them to make use of their darkvision. Prefer mild weathered terrain, but can survive in harsher climates if needed.

Dietary needs and habits

Omnivorous, goblins eat whatever they can find but prefer meat. They can hunt or forage if needed, but usually raid other nearby settlements or travelers to take what they need. Will store what they can, but are prone to overeating when supplies are stocked.

Naming traditions

Each member of a goblin tribe is named after an object, action or feature. This name then defines them within the tribes social construct.   Most respected are those with powerful names related to fighting or winning. The outcasts of the society will in turn be given names that serve no function.   The name of a goblin is magically tied to their being and becomes their true definition. As such, if a goblin is given a name then everyone in and outside of the tribe will understand it. One cannot change their own name, but it must be earned and believed by the tribe to be accepted into the global unconsciousness of the race.

Major organizations

Goblins have no global organisation, each tribe serves only itself. Fighting between tribes is not uncommon, espescially if two tribes hunt in the same area. For this reason, many goblin tribes seek out their own hunting grounds. A defeated tribe will usually be assimilated into the victorious once. The losers will be given detrimental names, while the victors earn more powerful ones.   With a powerful enough name a Goblin may be able to unite more tribes under a common cause.

Beauty Ideals

Strong physique, but other than that goblins care little for beauty. Your name is what defines you and also what makes you more or less attractive.

Gender Ideals

Mostly gender-neautral. Only exception is given to pregnant females, who command protection from the rest of the tribe.
